*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

There could be a base your team has to defend with say a few key bottlenecks. You'd divide up and hold the push, maybe have a roaming guy or two when things get hairy and it looks like one is going to fall. And a fall back position should that happen.
That sounds exactly like defending the confluxes in Vault of Glass to me. It's easy now as everyone is a much higher level, but back when it was new you had to split up your team in various configurations to defend each conflux. There would often be a floater in the middle who would help mid and left.

The one mechanic I wish they would ditch is the no-revive in hard mode raids. It seems like a decent way of making things harder, but in reality, usually the team just wipes and starts again.

I don't agree that a lot of what you're saying is actually missing. You do need a balanced team, we always make sure we've got some people with a crowd control build, some tank or support builds.

Normal mode actually has a lot more of the 'dynamic' side of things because if someone dies you can adapt to the situation usually and pull it off. In that sense hard mode is basically making sure you follow the script.

I haven't seen a single bug in KF yet, pretty impressed with that side of things. I've seen all kinds of crazy stuff happening on Oryx but then I realised my pickup group was scattered all over Europe, west coast US and the host was in South Africa :/ Besides network induced lag it's pretty solid.

I suspect the game is being held back considerably by support for previous generation consoles as well. Assuming Destiny 2 drops last gen I think we'll see a much richer sandbox for the designers to build in and correspondingly more interesting raid mechanics.

I always thought it would be fun to have some sort of mechanic where they bridge PvP and PvE. Ie you have two fireteams racing to complete a mission and have certain sidetasks that you can complete that would hinder the other team but also your own team if you fail so you have to decide whether to take the risk to see if you can pull off the debuff on your competition, otherwise you lose out. Things like that would be fun.

The idea that they were going to join up multiple fireteams at points of the raid to work together was a really cool one but ultimately would be painfully frustrating if you get partnered with an incompetent group.

Even if they introduced PvP modes where they had AI enemies spawning in (either to complete a task or just for the massacre).

Agreed. I'm generalising to some extent. The confluxes was a good phase for sure and more of that - or even building on it - would be welcome. Agreed with no revives in hard mode too - it's a cheap, ******** way of increasing the challenge. Likewise by adding bullet sponge mobs. Halo shows how well difficulty can be increased without being cheap - you just have to compare normal and legendary modes.

I haven't tried King's Fall on hard yet, but for the previous raids we'd just rock up and follow the script. Perhaps everything I'm suggesting isn't entirely missing, but it's so underdeveloped it may as well not be there. Even though it wasn't entirely necessary - I used to enjoy trying to cover the sword runner after we dropped the sword bearer on Crota. He'd be dodging through Thrall, trying to get to the sword (which can be hairy at lv. 28!) and we'd be covering him with nades and small fire. And on the flip side when I was running the sword and relying on ppl to support me. It's such a tiny thing but stands out for me as an example of what's missing in Destiny. Take the Oryx fight. It almost feels single player. We're all doing stuff, but pretty much in isolation. Jump on your pillar, shoot an Ogre, shoot boss in tummy, stand in a blight, shoot boss, rinse and repeat. All the while hoping the other guys in your team don't make a mistake. tbh the whole thing feels overly contrived and arbitrary and really - where's the actual teamplay?

I agree with what you're saying about normal mode btw. Being able to adapt come back from a mistake is arguably more rewarding and certainly more testing than nailing things perfectly first time. More of that would be welcome too.

I am a little surprised that they haven't used some kind of scaling on the AI for difficulty. Halo's AI was revolutionary at the time and IIRC difficulty changed NPC behaviour.

Would be good if HM made 'smarter' NPCs. Again I guess last gen hardware may be an issue. Have to remember that we are basically playing a game designed for a 10 year old console....pretty impressive what they've managed to date.

Its mostly just supers thought right, crowd control is mostly just a super that clears loads of Ads, and maybe a super cell, support is just a bubble with the same weapons as everyone else, at the same time I've done almost all the content in this game without having all the sub classes. Most i did before Kings Fall I hardly ever changed weapons, expect too Ice Breaker for a few bits, with Kings fall its my main load out, then ToM load out after daughters.

In terms of subclass, I change almost nothing for each sub class expect maybe rejigg for PVE vs PVP, I've never had multi builds for PVE depending on content, and its also not something you see often. Mostly its just change your super a bit e.g. if I'm DB and I need to be sneaky I'll build for that, if not just keep it inline with PVP.

When you compare this too an MMO, you can see very clearly there is extremely limited build diversity, the classes all basically do the same thing expect a super that up for a small amount of the battle, we don't really have tradition roles e.g Tank, DPS, Healer and instead everyone kinda does every again with the exception of their respective supers which again is a small part of the game time.

I think there is a lot of the MMO aspects lacking in this game, the roles of the classes is too close, they can all get similar stats, use almost all the same weapons, have exactly the same perks on gear bar things that relate too skill tree. I can for the most part have a Titan built very similar too a hunter, have the same perks on all my armour, same status, same weapons, doing similar damage, taking similar damage. This also missing out all the none raid stuff, you can open any MMO and have 100s hours of quests too do, a good deal is mid numbing and boring, but its still stuff too do, even if its go get some crap, go get more crap, it is better then people just finishing all the content quickly and moving on.

destiny isn't an MMO and doesn't need to go further down that rabbit hole.

It sits nicely in its current hybrid MMO / FPS hybrid implementation.

Who's moving on? Completing Destiny end game each time it comes around takes up enough time as it is. It's good to have breaks in between big content drops.

The reason I *don't* play MMOs anymore is because I don't have that kind of time spare. A couple of hours per week raiding and the odd snatched session here be there is plenty to enjoy all the content, long may it continue.

possibly need a third for trials today 5pm ish

you interested? heard your handy in pvp.

went flawless yesterday no issues

Darn it! The ONE time I actually need strange coins (supercell) I've only got 12 :( :(

Quickest way to get strange coins?

If you have any treasure keys left over from pre-TTK, then level 28 prison of elders will get you 4 or 5 per run. I think you get 3 guaranteed from the big chest, and a good chance of getting 1 from the small chests.

Alternatively, if you do a whole bunch of patrol missions on any given planet (like, 5 to 10 without returning to orbit), eventually you'll get one of those random patrol missions where it scrambles what you actually have to do. Those reward 2 or 3.

Or if you're close to a new rank with a faction, getting that levelled up will net you, I believe, 4 coins.

And of course, while you're doing all this, you'll be collecting blue engrams, some of which may turn into coins.

i can't remember the last time i used my supercell tbh. it doesn't hit that hard, it's only good against groups of mobs.

e.g. abyss lamps with loads of thrall = good

anywhere else i would rather use telesto or spindle, etc.

Or an exotic sword.

I just got my first exotic sword last night. The arc one. After spending all evening struggling, I finally got match-made with a group who were both after the same sword as me. Funny how much easier it becomes when you only have to keep one knight alive in the final boss fight.

So yeah, my exotic slot will be taken up with a sword for the foreseeable future, I think. Hurling blue discs of death at enemies is great fun.

Still gonna pick up the zhalo supercheese though. I'd kick myself if I didn't and I never got another opportunity.

hurling tron discs at mobs is not nearly as hilarious or as satisfying as taking down yellow bar majors in the raid with almost one hit :D

I do love the Bolt-Caster, it's really cool. Raze Lighter is also amazing for single target dps, like... ridiculously good. I don't have Dark Drinker because I don't have a third character =(

Just got the fusion rifle from the raid. Not really impressed. The recoil is unforgivably high. I'm going to keep it until I can unlock Braced Frame, to see if it'll fix the stability. But even then, I can't see myself ever using it when I have a sniper rifle or a shotgun available. It's good infusion fuel though, mine came with 309 attack. It could boost my 1000 Yard Stare sniper from 298 to 307.

just infuse it into your favourite sniper rifle. Its ****

So I got fed up with the current cruicible "meta" (cringe) and have been using Necrochasm and Hardlight today.

I've found it most amusing.

So long as you get the first shot in and stay on target you will win the majority of close to midrange 1 on 1s with the Necrochasm.
Hardlight is just a mad mass of flashing blue lights and numbers, but awesome fun none the less.
