Challenge of Elders Week Commencing 24th May 2016

Modifiers:

Airborne

Players deal more damage while in the air

Exposure

Guardian shields are increased but do not replenish

Bonus Modifier:

Grenade Kill Bonus

Round 1: Noru'usk, Servant of Oryx

Round 2: Pilot Servitor

Round 3: Sylok The Defiled

So, Warlocks are in for a treat this week again with everlasting grenades!
Doing speed runs should be nice and simple too with the Touch of Malice method for burning the bosses. :D

Decided to try and interesting experiment last night on the PS4 by turning my sensitivity down from my usual 5/6 to 3. Holy balls why didn't I do this sooner! My primary / fusion game showed no difference but sniping is sooooooooooooo much easier. Snapping and (basic) drag scoping is actually possible without massive over compensation (essentially missing).

I haven't exactly become KJHovey (and never will be anywhere near that good) but I certainly felt more confident in my shots.

Oh and Twilight Garrison + Lord of Wolves on the Shield Brothers strike is hilarious (and saved my ass a few times when I went too ham).

So last nights raid was fun and relatively smooth. 72 minutes in total which seems about right (could have been done quicker had I not needed to get checkpoints for the other runs are planning to do this week) 1 wipe at Totems (due to that Je11y Guy ;p)

So here is the recording from the broadcast last night:

Then having fun at that piston wall section as a striker titan:

https://www.twitch.tv/je11ymaster/v/68508569 I'm sorry Gimp I couldn't resist ;p

Couple of quick questions;

1. Does being in a Clan offer any type of bonus’ above that of playing with friends etc?

2. While I was merrily running around the Dreadnaught looking for Calcified Fragments I happened across a room where there were two guys constantly summoning Oryx lieutenants, sometimes two or three at a time – I joined in and got some pretty good gear level 305-310 stuff in a relatively short space of time from the Chest on the platform. After a while I figured out what the hell was going on and realised that I too had some Runes to summon someone – I did this twice but on both occasions only one spawned. So my question is; What is the Room, how do I get more of these Runes (do they show in my inventory) and how do I summon more than one at a time?

Cheers

Starting to understand half of what's being said in this thread now. Got my Titan to 40 and getting closer to 300 or so level.
I did that Challenge of Elders last night, which was hard until I realised it's more about disarming the mines than killing things.

I do have a quest that involves killing 3 named on Earth. How do I work out where they are? The HUD just points to the nearest Patrol missions.

Answer 1: Not really. It just means if you have an active clan with lots of players you can arrange for "group" games like raids, Challenge of Elders, PvP etc. Some clans may do more "offline" stuff but I don't think there is any distinct bonus within the game world for being a member of a clan.

Answer 2: Ah the Court of Oryx (CoO), fun times :D there are three levels of bosses:

Level 1: Is a Solo Lieutenant from the Court of Oryx (e.g. Vorlog, Kragour etc)

Level 2: Is a combination of 2 Lieutenant's from the Court of Oryx (e.g. Vorlag + Kragour

Level 3: Will be one of 3 Ultra's They rotate on a three week cycle.

These tiers are activated from having reciprocal runes (level 1 - White Runes) , Stolen Runes (level 2 - Blue Runes) and Antiquated runes (level 3 - Purple runes)

The stolen and antiquated runes require "charging" by three of the previous tier i.e. you need to run 3 reciprocal runes to charge a stolen rune and 3 stolen runes to charge an antiquated rune.

You don't have to run the runes yourself as you can just join others popping their runes.

Each of the runes are used in the left hand side of the CoO as you look at the gateway where the bosses come out. The nearest one is for Level 1, the furthest Level 3.

Runes drop at random in the game world, given as rewards or purchased from Eris at the tower.

Hopefully that answers your question.

Just to add to the above:

1) Tier 1 runs are ~190 light. They summon any of the normal Taken Lieutenants one at a time. These are very easy regardless of whether you are in fireteam or not.

2) Tier 2 (Stolen) runes are ~ 240 light. Two taken lieutenants are summoned in specific pairs (they are set as each pair gives a calcified fragment - think ghost). Some are easy (knight and wizard) and some are a right PIFA! (Shielded knights and triple wizards). The main difficulty you will face is the sheer volume of adds and stuff happening on the screen.

3) Tier 3 (Antiquated) runes are ~ 300 light (unless the April update tweaked them). On Ultra is spawned on a weekly rotation. The hardest by far is Thalnok or "baby Crota". If you haven't run Crota's end (which is basically everyone I have come across attempting it) you will struggle. Once you get the mechanics down he is relatively easy to kill (again adds and/or timing might mess you up).

CoO is a good bit of fun if there are lots of people running it (can get very hectic) but can also get very boring once you have seen all of the possible rotations.

Very comprehensive thanks guys!

I Think Thalnok did spawn but the other two guys seemed to know what they were doing so it all went off without a hitch. I believe I have done Crota's End with you guys but I didn't know what what going off and was most likely dead for most of the fight anyway!

Should try and get a PS4 Raid done too help some of the new guys. Might have too plan ahead as I plan too only play overwatch since Crucible is a joke recently. Pretty sure someone was hacking last night as he would grab the rift and dunk it within 2 seconds game ended with him having 16k points. Seems outside the realm of lag too me since he would literally just blink once and move cross map. From my understand match making rotates host too reduce host advantage so I can't off away too explain how he was blinking whole sniper lanes at a time.

I'd be up for helping you guys out with the raid. Not done it in a while (I need to get it done on the Xbone as well at some point - I need the Defiance of Yasmin for dem sick snipes bruh! - or something like that.... :p)

Getting Overwatch most likely at the weekend (need to finish R&C first) so will have to plan ahead a bit as well. :)

Cause we have too walk you through a few bits I would guess 90mins - 2 hours. However it has check points so we could get too like half way then pick it up another day.

You mean I have to walk you through it... Yeah I can manage that anyway, be good to see some of the raid content.

Totems and Sisters will probably cause the most wipes (especially the latter due to the mechanics) but overall the raid itself doesn't take that long. As Moe said 90 mins to 2 hours would be a good run.

Ultimately it will depend on what experience you want. If you want to go in completely blind where we explain the mechanics step by step then it will take longer. If you want to research first it will naturally take less time (as you will have a prior understanding on each section). I fondly remember my first ever raid experience so I wouldn't want to deny you that. I would recommend perhaps going in blind at first and only researching future sections if we really get "stuck".

All I will say is you will want a decent hard hitting primary and ideally a high impact sniper.
