Not been enjoying alpha so far?

I'm on beta...

Just pointing out that it's easy to get carried away with "bamboozal" and forget at the end of the day, the gameplay itself is key :)

ie: It could well have 1,000,000,000 stars, but unless what you do between them is of interest, it's no better than having 100 :)

Well, if you enjoyed the original Elite, you will absolutely love it :D

I get nerd chills when I look at videos of this. I am seriously considering the £100 for premium beta, but like others I am a bit miffed at how expensive it is :S

Still, with this and Star Citizen some interesting games on the horizon.

What is a good flight stick for this? X55?

Then don't buy expensive access in advance, just wait for the normal beta at £50 or the full release at £35. It's really not that much for the full game when it's done and released.

The extra money is to help fund and support the game and act as a brake to millions of people all trying to play a game that's not yet out of beta and making it more difficult to track and deal with bugs.

But but but I want to play early! I might have to stump up, it does look awesome :p

Its the modern equal of arcade pricing. I dont think its any more expensive just a lump sum instead of putting in a quid every 5 minutes to play virtuacop a couple years before it comes out on console anyway :p

Yeah as stated before you a buying one copy of elite at 35 quid, a "season pass" meaning you can get all future expansions (including walking on stations and planetary landing) for 35 quid, and you are paying 30 quid to get into the beta which will take you up to the end of the year when the game is released.

Thats 4.28 a month or to put it another way - much cheaper than planetside etc etc.

So if you like the look of it, go and get it - but bear in mind you will quickly want a joystick and likely want Trackir before long so check your bank balance.

By the way it's flippin' amazing already :)

Alpha 4.0 has been released with trading, hyperspace, super-cruise and more star systems.

A video from one of the alpha backers showing a hyperspace jump.

I have to say having played this myself for the past hour I am absolutely amazed at how it is all coming together. What makes this SO different than every other space game I have played is the complete lack of rooms. The actual space backdrop and locations are based on known galaxy map data. No flying between painted skybox rooms, these planets, moons and space stations all have orbits and you can fly between them seamlessly I have never felt this amazed by a game in years. It just felt so immersive flying from one star system to another without requiring a jump/star/worm gate of some sort.

The new hyperspace jump graphics are

Just saw the hyperdrive in action.... :O indeed. Not often something in a video game impresses me these days.

EDIT: Saw it on someones stream not the video above - was even more impressive (different destination and range).

Just watched some recent videos on Youtube, and the sound designer on ED deserves a very large cookie.

As good as the gfx look so far, the sounds have a huge impact on how it feels overall, and they've nailed it.

I'd love to play it now - I could spend ages just looking around the inside of the station with TrackIR - but couldn't justify the £100 atm, so will need to make do drooling at YT vids.

Yeah love the littke creaks and micro-impact sounds, etc. as the ship flies whoever did the design work on the sound and hyper drive effect deserves some recognition.
