The *Official* Eve Online Thread

ECM is Upto date.
Appart from stuff that is Hard programmed in to likt Clones.
Coz the Author has dropped of the face of the earth,

EMS is taking over yeay

After using ECM for the best part of a year, and then getting fed up with the delay between getting skill and ship updates from FFE, on top of their attitude to the community producing updates to the XML files; I have to say that EVEMon has proved superb for me.

It is open source (Written in C#) Six Anari dosn't have any quarms about allowing the community to submit patches and updates. The application itself is well written and dosn't contain all of the bloat that is associated with EMS/ECM.

ECM had its reign, EVEMon now has its chance.

What Ever Rich

ECM is no Longer Supported or being developed, EMS is taking over all be it slowly.
EMS is going to be a Modular program, all it is now is a program that grabs the XML files of the EVE character Sheet Server.

As for Skill/Ship updates they are released straight after a Patch release, not more that a week.

well i would defend EMS/ECM as i am a beta tester, hehehehe.

EMS will be King soon enough.

We will see, it seems to me that in an environment that relys on contributions from the community, there is little place for a closed source application. If Six Anari stops developing EVEMon or stops playing EVE, then anyone can pickup the source where he left off and take over development.

From my point of view EVEMon does everything that I want it to do:

:: Provides quick access to my Character Sheet
:: Tells me what time a skill finishes in GMT
:: Reminds me when a skill has finished
:: Allows me to plan out skills (more importantly multiple plans)

[edit]
Tell you what Steve, you provide me instructions (not a link to Yegistrys instructions) on how you setup ECM/EMS to reliably download your character sheet, I will give it another go.

Just like good EMS/ECM.

And for you Mobile Phone users out there.
There is EVE Mobile Skill planner,

Take a look here.

I have got it on my Xda IIs, it works OK, thats because it mainly for Java Mobile Phones and not Pocket PC. Some of the options are not available.
and with the advent of CCP Pocket PC client its going to in invaluable.

ECM is absolute rubbish. Takes about 15 hours for it to realise I've started a new skill training. The little icon stays red all the time even when all characters are being trained.

EvEMON is so much better. Planning skills is very simple and it even tells you which learning skills to train (if not done already) to save time.

I would hazard a guess that Tim Fries is the developer i.e. Six Anari.

You can't set a skill training manualy.

Well thats totally crap, 2nd BAD mark against EVEMon.
How often does it check the EVE character sheet server???

ECM needs EMS, as the ECM XML data retreaval Code is flawed.
The Tray icon will only change to green only if the program detect a skill in training in the XML files, and it only does that when the character Portrait is clicked or changed to another and reselected,
I dont know why it does this, possibly may be to keep Drive/Data access down to a bear minimun.

Well at least the thread has livened up again.

Also ECM does that too, put the skill in the Queue and if pre-requisites are needed that are put infront of it.

Hourly

Ah, but EVEMon will suggest learning skills, i.e. if you try and queue up 4 days of training when you don't have any learning skills it will suggest the learning skills that will actually reduce the amount of time to train the same set of skills (including training learning skills).

Still not going to use it,
only because of two reason

1, Not being able to set a Skill training manually,
2, WWWAAYYY to many windows (Queue screen), Especially if you have 6 charcter to manage.

God way is time going soo slowly today, I want to be in a pub

How long does this game take until it doesn't seem soo soo confusing? :P

I tried the demo a few months back, and although i enjoyed it, there was so much to get to grips with, i just didnt have enough time :(

Used to play SWG and currently Playing WoW but hopeing for something more fun/interesting like EVE.

Ages, put it this way, even players that have oplayed it for over two year still ask me Questions.
the game is So indepth that it will probably take 4 years to explore ever aspect of the game to its fullest extent.

A word of advice; don't make your final judgement on the game until you've played it for at least a month or two and have joined a player corp :)
