My goal machine..

havn't played football manager in a while but man it must have gone down hill big time if a defender with 11 for finishing can end up with 49 goals in 55 games.

I think the finishing stat only applies properly to strikers. Pique will be scoring loads of goals from corners probably by heading them in using his height and jumping/heading stats. :)

How the hell!! haha

One thing I've noticed from looking at that and FM08...

The attributes. Why oh why on 08 do you have to scroll down ONE line to see technique, work rate and morale!! Its unbelievably annoying sometimes...

That sounds about right.
Theres a guy on the SI forum playing as Milan who has Barzagli on 20ish goals a season. By having Pirlo aiming at him all the time, and him set to challenge the keeper.
The most ive seen from a DC is 12, with Memphistos tactic.

Yeah. Another thing is that finishing is meant for strikers going one on one with a keeper?

Whereas Pique or other tall defenders won't be going one on one as there'll be other players in the area. :)

Yup, I have Breno at centre back, set to 'Challenge GK' from corners, he's netted 18 goals so far this season. Micah Richards has hit 7 from 6 starts at DC (yes I finally bought him, for £25.5m, otherwise Chelsea were going to have him )

Currently deliberating whether Maxwell at Inter is worth £17m + Eboue (worth £5.5m) and then getting a replacement DR in Eduardo Ratinho. Anyone had any experience with Maxwell and/or Ratinho?

What positions do you need, and what year you in?

Ratinho is very good.

The one I'm currently playing I'm only into the 2009-2010 season.

Since I last posted, Eboue went to Inter for £14m, so now only have Sagna at right WB really, though could play Micah Richards but I prefer him at DC (bye bye William Gallas). Was trying to sign a player called Ilsinho, looked rather tasty for £7m, but kept getting work permit rejected and then Bayern snapped him up . So I need a second DR/WBR, DL/WBL (I have Sahko, but again I prefer him at DC) and a backup GK at the moment I think, my squad is pretty strong elsewhere. I have a rather enormous budget, but I never like to blow £20m+ on a player :o I guess I'm living up to Mr Wenger in reality!

Currently: 4-4-2
GK: Fabianski (err, Lehmann)
DL: Traoré
DR: Sagna
DC: Richards (Breno)
DC: Toure (Sahko)
MR: Hleb (Arteta)
ML: Rosicky (Sergio Mota)
MC: Fabregas (Modric)
MC: Pirlo (Diaby)
FC: Podolski (Eduardo)
FC: Adebayor / Van Persie (Bendtner)

I haven't made too many signings as you can see, but I haven't really needed to. I've mainly signed quite a few youngsters really. Speaking of which I just remembered I've just signed Giovani Dos Santos from Barcelona on a free and I have no idea where I'm going to play him :D

For anyone who hasn't already, I highly recommend Podolski. I know it's a cliche but the man is a machine. He WILL get you goals, especially crucial ones. Plays well in any formation I've thrown at the team to far too. I remember signing him in a previous FM and he was stunning then too, and cost relatively little each time, £8m this time. If I could make only one transfer at the beginning of a season I would have him.

Hey, just started as Bolton manager and Anelka is already at Chelsea. :(
Is there any way i can "bring" him back?
I've got 8.02.
Cheers

If you don't want to start a new game then get FM Modifier and move him. Think that will work.

Editing the db will deffo work if you are prepared to start a new game.

na they backdated the transfers, only way it could really work i guess, if you feel it's hard done by, then use the editor and start over, or add manger and do a cut price deal :p

Well i'm only like 3 days in all i've done so far is sacked my assistant manager, couple of coaches and replaced them so i dont mind starting over.
