***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

do you stream media files held on the box?

I uploaded a few mp3's and when selected one just now it seemed to download the mp3 before playing.

I have set up a home network with my desktop and my Dell duo netbook, so on the duo I can access the music, film and photo folders on my desktop and open the files on the duo. Is it possible to do the same thing with the touchpad?

What cases are people going for? Seen this for £10:

Any one got one? Thoughts?

ReadMe seems fine to me, no frills EPUB reader. Does what it says on the tin. Worth 79p lol.. anything is worth 79p.

Not if you don't use it. For it to be any use to me it has to be as good as the kindle app, my Sony eReader or iBooks. Currently the Touchpad, for me at least, is ok for the kids to mess about on surfing the web and that is about it.

I bought it for the wife to replace her eReader, however it doesn't measure up.

Sounds like you're doing a cpu based encode, have you also got the encode quality set to normal or high?

do you use a GPU based? If so, i dont think i can with a Radeon?

I can't see a "normal" or "high" setting in handbrake.

it's set to mp4 container, large file size, web optimised and ipod 5g are unticked.

width 1024x432, keep aspect ratio ticked.

anamorphic none, module 16, cropping automatic

no video filters

video: codec h.264, FPS same as source, target size 1900, audio mp3 stereo at 160,

Cheers

Tom.

You cannot side load mobi books into kindle. I have kindle on my touchpad, but it is useless if I cannot use it to read the collection I already own.

I was talking about the app, not books.

Sounds like you've got everything setup correctly. It's just doing a cpu only encode. I'm using intel quicksync on my 2920xm or the gtx480's cuda on my desktop.

If you find handbrake too slow then you may wish to try mediacoder ipod edition. Just set it to convert to .mp4 and use the ipad preset.

If you want to use your amd card to accelerate the encode you will need something like cyberlink's mediaespresso.

Anyone having problems with signing in to hotmail live via the browser, I may have found the solution, taken from another forum, hope this helps

I was able to access my hotmail account using hp touchpad

Instructions:

- Perform a system update (3.0.2) - not sure if this step is needed-

- Open the browser and type https://hotmail.com (notice we are using https not http)

- You will be asked if you want always to use https to access your account, select that option then save preference if asked
(you will be asked this only for the first time)

- then you will b prompted to enter your login information

- Next you will be asked to upgrade your browser, just ignore that and click on continue to windows live Hotmail link in blue
(you will be asked this each time you are trying to login to your hotmail account )

- When you click on continue to windows live Hotmail it will take you to your account where you will able to read and write emails in real time

.

What software do you need to use the cuda on Nvidia cards please?

I am guessing encoding would be quicker on my two overclocked gtx470's than my i7 at 4.5Ghz?

Someone must know the answer to this?

If you are not streaming from the box, but have to download the file each time you want to use it then I cant see the big deal over max file size for upload. I am uploading a film to the box at the moment as an experiment. It is taking bloody ages and has already failed once. If I had to download it onto the touchpad to use it, that will also presumably take a bloody long time. Therefore I cant seen when I would ever want to use the Box for large files.

I presume someone must know the answer to this as well?

But I wasn't and you corrected me, for no apparent reason it seems. I said you cannot side load into Kindle, you said you can. You can't.
I said you could sideload the app as that's what I though you were posting about. It's clearly a simple misunderstanding, no need to get wound up about it.

Try mediacoder ipod edition, making sure to select .mp4 as the output and using the 720p ipad profile.

You can choose from a variety of cpu qualities along with cuda or quicksync.

Anyone know how you set the homepage on the Advanced Browser or is it just intended to bring you to that speed dial page?

I am using pretty much the same settings as you in handbrake. For comparison:

i7 @ 4.5GHz (So has HT)

1.4GB 720P MKV > 1024x576 (Locked Aspect Ratio), Same FPS, No Filters, Same FPS as Source, AC2 @ 160, 0 B-Frames

13 Minutes total, ~105FPS average.
