***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

I'm really surprised more people don't seem to be using the kalemsoft media player which can handle avis without needing reencoding. Sounds much simpler than all this converting!

Are you talking about avi files which are stored on the touchpad or do you mean streaming from a pc?

I actually prefer to re-encode into a resolution which will suit the screen perfectly. Added benefit of filesize reduction also.

Most of the MKVs and AVIs I have tried with the kalemsoft player have issues with audio de-synchronisation.

I preferred Bhome to watch my movies. Quality was great. It streams them great from my NAS (Synology DS410). It's a bit of a PITA to have to convert them but I am only likely to do it with TV episodes and the odd movie that I might want to put on the TP when I go away. I put Toy Story 3 through Handbrake using the iPad profile and it looked awesome and played v. smooth on the TP streaming through Bhome.

just had a quick look at bhome. It can recognise my PC, but only seems to see avery limited selection of folders and files. What do I need to do to make them available/ visible to bhome?

What resolution are you using? I took Miami Vice through Handbrake and used the ipda setting. Full screen it's a bit grainy and some parts are off the screen. Use the box setting and it's perfect but I have top and bottom borders

I keep the aspect ratio. I HATE changed Aspect ratios and prefer bars to fullscreen with stretch and/or crop.

I set a 1024 width with Keep Resolution ticked and accept there will be some bars. Only 2 things I would change about the TP. 1 is that it had a proper 720p resolution screen and the other is that it had a microSD slot.

I really do not mind bars, especially compared to the stretched blurry mess that is changing aspect ratios.

Sin Chase, you need to turn off large file support. The HP Touchpad runs a FAT32 file system, so it does not support files over 4GB in size.

oh right, glad you said that, I havn't forked out for it yet so thanks for the notification.

I'd try the beta version you can install with preware. I can only comment on the files I have tried, not all files that exist.

There is also the Touchplayer app that is also available via preware that can give different results.

whoa. I did not know that!

Touchpad video player doesn't support files above 2GB either. A shame as the cpu in the TP supports high profile files, something the tegra 2 doesn't.

Amazed you guys are still plodding along with cpu encodes. I'm enjoying the 600+fps hardware encoding. On a laptop. :D

I would use CUDA if it could do it with decent quality. 110FPS CPU encodes is fast enough for me :D

As for file some limitations. Really is a non-issue. Just split your videos into parts and either playlist them if the player does not auto play the next file.

Okay I give. After 2 hours and googling i can;t add my gf hotmail to the touchpad via pop or microsoft exchange. Help!

Open it in web browser over HTTPS and accept/install the certificate?

I could not use my own hosted IMAP over SSL before I accepted the cert via the web browser on HTTPS.
