*** The official HTC One X thread ***

It looks like i'm having the flickering issue which a few people have mentioned before. Are we expecting a fix to come out for it or is it a case of taking it back to the shop and getting it switched over?

On the subject of battery life. People who are having battery life problems, could you please post a screenshot of your usage chart.

I've noticed a couple of times that my battery life took a nosedive for no apparent reason and a few things on the chart didn't add up.

This is bound to be a software/driver error likely related to the power management file misplacement or something else HTC haven't fixed yet. For example, it could be leaving some of the cores on at high speed when it should be shutting them down.

I'd get it swapped if possible.

RE battery life - Mines on 39%, 9h, 12m and 46s. 3h screen time.

Which is fine, because I havent been using the phone that much.

Does anyone know about the wifi issue I posted about on the last page? Not connecting to websites / data points when connected to my home wifi network.

As you can see I have been using mine for those all important features :P

My brightness is on its lowest setting btw

40% after 3 hours screen time is pretty good really, is that on auto brightness?

Most other phones with smaller, inferior screens can't do much better than that. It's to be expected.

TBH it isn't that great (IMO) considering to get 3 hours, the brightness is on lowest setting, which IMO completely ruins a good screen especially on the X :(

Also Robbo I think the usage chart for sense isn't accurate as I took over 40 photos yesterday with my One S and camera didn't even show up on the chart.........

EDIT:

Also have you enabled airplane mode or something? You have no signal or wifi signal and that would greatly help battery life if you have.......

Indeed, I thought it might be on auto brightness. Lowest isn't really great.

The usage chart is garbage (always has been), but I was talking more specifically about when you tap on the graph that shows when your battery has dropped and what is enabled/disabled at the bottom.

Anyway, as I posted earlier, I can get around 3 hours screen on time (on auto brightness, it usually seems quite high) over 24 hours with ease, which is quite fine and there aren't many phones that do much better. If I manually managed the brightness (I can't be bothered) I could squeeze another 30 minutes or so I think at least.

I'll try all of this in future but at the moment I want HTC to sort the power management update out that reportedly adds 20%~ battery life, which is great.

Just a little update, thanks to everyone who helped me choose (especially Robbo for his detailed replies and answering all my questions), I have gone for the One X and O2 rang me today saying it is in stock rather than tomorrow. It should be getting it tomorrow :D :D

Ah right!

Can't be bothered!?!?!?! :p It only takes like a second with switch pro widget on one of your homescreens!!!!! :p You can set up to as many individual brightness levels of a 10 interval as you like.

I have mine at 20%, 40 (sometimes I change this to 50% though) and 70%.

Yeah that is pretty decent usage that you are getting there. Do you have wifi or a mobile data connection or no connection at all?

Just wondering guys for when I get my One X tomorrow, for making my battery last as long as possible is this right:

- Disable auto-brightness
- Do not leave un-necessary apps running
- Do not have apps that close other apps for you, as it uses more battery
- Switch of Wi-Fi when it is not needed, but use it if possible as it uses less battery??
- Let the battery run right down, then charge it up <<< Is that necessary these days or not?

Any other things?

Wifi is on the default setting (which is always on) and it's on wifi more often than not. The idle standby will no doubt take a bit more of a hammering when I'm out a bit more, but at the moment everything is just on default. I didn't get much better on the Galaxy S II on the latest stock ICS ROM so I'd say it's similar enough to that!

It's bizarre that GSMArena haven't released their battery life test yet, perhaps it did badly and HTC paid them not to release it. :D :p

Yes, adjust brightness yourself, ideally IMO 40% brightness indoors and 70+ for outside, but that is up to you

No need to worry about apps running and closing etc. android handles it just fine unless a game isn't responding or something then kill the app. Read this:

http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/

Yes don't use a task killer

If you don't need any internet connection for quite a while, switch mobile and wifi off, however, if you are going to be flicking to the internet or an app that requires a internet connection often then use wifi when possible and just leave it on (don't keep switching it of and on every 10 mins as that will use more power), mobile data connection uses more power than wifi especially if you are in an area where coverage is ****

Not really for gaining better battery life (maybe a bit), but it is more so for calibrating the battery meter, so yes do it for the first 2 charges.

To be fair, once we start getting some decent ROMs out we will see better battery life anyway. I don't mind it as much as I thought, been without a phone for years and I will just not take it on night out anymore.
