*** The official HTC One X thread ***

Just wondering guys for when I get my One X tomorrow, for making my battery last as long as possible is this right:

- Disable auto-brightness
- Do not leave un-necessary apps running
- Do not have apps that close other apps for you, as it uses more battery
- Switch of Wi-Fi when it is not needed, but use it if possible as it uses less battery??
- Let the battery run right down, then charge it up <<< Is that necessary these days or not?

Any other things?

Yes, adjust brightness yourself, ideally IMO 40% brightness indoors and 70+ for outside, but that is up to you

No need to worry about apps running and closing etc. android handles it just fine unless a game isn't responding or something then kill the app. Read this:

http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/

Yes don't use a task killer

If you don't need any internet connection for quite a while, switch mobile and wifi off, however, if you are going to be flicking to the internet or an app that requires a internet connection often then use wifi when possible and just leave it on (don't keep switching it of and on every 10 mins as that will use more power), mobile data connection uses more power than wifi especially if you are in an area where coverage is ****

Not really in order to gain better battery life, but it is to calibrate the battery meter, so yes do it for the first 2 charges.

All of this, but as for the last point on the battery, just let it deplete once per month, and then charge it to full. Aside from that, charge it whenever you like.

To be fair, once we start getting some decent ROMs out we will see better battery life anyway. I don't mind it as much as I thought, been without a phone for years and I will just not take it on night out anymore.

HTC's update is going to be more important at the moment as there are a few issues they need to sort out.

Another thing I forgot to mention, you don't need the HTC Media Link thing if you have a smart TV, I can play everything to mine without issue.

For some reason I thought it wouldn't work as they're trying to sell the Media Link box.

Thanks for the replies everyone, taken that all in, just don't have much to say to it so my reply will be shorter, lol :p

On a BB, I think, if you turn off 'Mobile Network', I'm sure you won't receive phone calls and text messages. Never had an Android before so what you are saying about turning off 'Mobile Data Connection', will I still receive calls/texts??

Also, that's good about the battery then, as I remember (ages ago) you used to have to let the battery run down, then charge it up, then run down etc otherwise it would damage the battery. Didn't think it was the case with Lithium Ion batteries but wanted to make sure, especially considering it is a non-user replaceable battery.

Also is it OK to go to bed (about midnight) and leave the phone on charge so it is full for the day when I wake up?? Or will that 'over-charge' it? Is overcharging possible?

No, you can't over charge it.

This is very different to a BlackBerry so just get it, and then ask! It's capable of a lot more. If you turn off 3G you'll still have a standard 2G connection for calls/texts (though I think you can do this on the BlackBerry too).

Okay cool, because I leave my BB on charge over night and was wondering if that's what ruined it lol

Haha, I'm just checking things before I get it :p haha

Wifi is on the default setting (which is always on) and it's on wifi more often than not. The idle standby will no doubt take a bit more of a hammering when I'm out a bit more, but at the moment everything is just on default. I didn't get much better on the Galaxy S II on the latest stock ICS ROM so I'd say it's similar enough to that!

Pretty good then.

It's bizarre that GSMArena haven't released their battery life test yet, perhaps it did badly and HTC paid them not to release it. :D :p

:D

Completely forgot about that! I wonder what the reason is now.......they had the one S up the day after the review was posted........could be that reason you stated :p or/and maybe they are waiting for the update to improve battery life first?

@azibux1

By mobile data connection, I mean mobile data connection :p It is just a connection to the internet. You will still receive texts and phone calls.

Quite possibly, they were quick to report on the power management issue so that would be very sensible of them.

Nice video review Andy :) And nice wallpaper! :D

The Galaxy nexus doesn't have gorilla glass though, it has an oleophobic coating which is suppose to be more resistant to fingerprints and greasy looking marks rather than scratches.

Also you do have a week view on the calendar, go to menu in the calendar app and choose "edit tabs" and you should have "week" there to add to the bottom tab.

Thanks guys.

I know. That's why I was saying I was glad the One X had gorilla glass, as the Nexus seemed to scratch easy.

I agree about the Nexus, it seems very prone to being scratched compared to other devices with alternative toughened glass or Gorilla glass.

Yup, HTC are back! ...to 2008 with limited user storage

Joke! I'd grab the One S/X/XL in a heartbeat. :D

Edit: The only thing I didn't like was the glossy plastic finish around the sides...

Quick question for anyone with a One X

Some of you might know the story, basically I'm getting a refurbished one as a replacement for my BB

Will I get the 25GB dropbox storage? Or will that have been 'used/activated' by the previous user?

I won't get any bits of paper with the phone, so did you get a special code you had to enter or anything? Or does it recognise you're using a HTC One??

No you don't need any paper with codes etc.

You should get it as well because it is linked to the dropbox account, so obviously you will have your account, which it will ask for when you set your device up for the first time.

Also when you get your device do a factory reset first!

I had my phone on overnight, 7hours(with obviously no use but all connections available) . Stayed at 28% the whole wU through! Biggest drains I've seen are screen obviously, but also wifi seems more thirsty than HSDPA. Are there any apps to customised auto brightness? It's always too bright indoors, but useful when going outside.

Swiching auto brightness off isn't much of a fix?
