*** The official HTC One X thread ***

Well, I've phoned Phones4u and told them I wasn't happy, after a lot of being passed from department to department I now have a Galaxy S3 coming to me and £20 in my account to buy a microSD card for it.

It turns out they only stock the 16gb model! I say again Phones4u only stock a 16gb model of the HTC One X!!!

Best part was when I was talking to one person who said, "did you check on our website as it would say on there that it was 16gb storage".

I had already checked and was able to say "no, it doesn't mention storage at all, only that the phone has 1GB of ram... she was totally thrown and the whole conversation swung my way from then on, as I mentioned all my sources for it having 32gb!!!

Not the phone I really wanted but I'm sure it'll do me fine!!

At first I had the HOx and SGS3 for 30 days, whilst the SGS3 is a lovely phone once you see and use the HOX display there is no going back.

In my opinion, Sense > TouchWiz, contact management is better, social network integration is top notch, camera app is better, just feels better visually as well as mentally for me!

Right now I've got the HOX and Gnote 2, again testing for a few days. Whilst I love the GNote 2 I HATE the screen, it's an improvement over the SGS3 but still not as good as the SLCD2 in the HOX.

The AMOLED displays offer better blacks which is fine, but the whites are tinted and appear yellow/blueish and not a good look. Text is not as sharp as the HOX display on either Galaxy phones. Sadly as much as I would love to keep the Note 2 because that phone has some awesome features I can't get use to the display. SLCD2 whites are better, pictures look more natural, less over saturation, sharper and crisp text.

I'll miss the multi view option on the Note 2 and better video playback but the screen is something you look at all the time and I can't get on with it.

SLCD3 is even better!! In this day and age pixel density does play a big part and that is where Samsung are currently lacking and no proper RGB screens from them at the moment is giving others the upper hand.

Jellybean on the HOX improves things vastly, sure a major let down is the battery life but I've learnt to charge whilst at my desk and such so not an issue to be honest. No expandable storage but 32GB and online cloud options suffice for now.

Now HTC PLEASEEEEEEEEE release the 5" beauty soon in the UK as you know how to release good screens!

It depends, most days I can go the whole day usually at work my usage is limited send a few texts, a call or 2, browse some web, listen to music for 30 mins with 3G and I usually come home with around 70% left. Usually 8am to 6pm.

With heavier usage it'll probably be around 40-50% I reckon depending how heavy it is.

Also signal and such play a part to. But so far it's been fine only on a handful of occasions I've had to charge it again. It idles well.

If you just make calls and text and browse for say an hour in total then I can get two days out of One X. If you whack it on full brightness and watch a film then its about 1% a minute.

Mine's going off for repair :( The screen has developed a yellow/orange tinge near the HTC logo that won't go away. :(

At least it has happened well within the warranty period. Glad I didn't unlock it now!

- SAMOLED 4.7" 720P screen
- SD slot and 12GB internal storage
- 8 MP camera (from what I have seen of the RAZR M and some camera shots from the RAZR HD, it looks pretty good, although I think the GS 3 and S/X are still better)
- S4 dual
- 2530 mAh battery
- the back looks great and the front is all right looking
- Great build quality and probably very durable due to the good construction of it, has a Kevlar back :D
- LTE supported too

And I was a bit hesistant about the software/updates but after reading this, it has filled me with some hope:

http://blog.gsmarena.com/heres-how-google-plans-to-get-motorola-out-of-the-mud/

Lets hope that last part is true :)

I think the software looks great as well, sticks very close to stock android, in fact all the basic applications like calendar, dialer etc. are pretty much stock.

I think it and the XL (and possibly the LG nexus, depending on camera, storage, battery etc. along with the X+ [despite it being tegra 3 grrrr......]) are the best all round phones you can get and will be for a good while and if size isn't an issue, the note II.

EDIT:

and the GS 3 LTE model.

Oh wow! Another phone to add to the list....you shouldn't have put the RAZR HD in my sights Nexus! :p

HTC One X+ .... Nexus 4....RAZR HD so many good phones coming out soon and so many hard decisions to make!

Ouch,

After a factory reset and with the phone off for a fair while the tint seems to have gone. No idea whether it will come back or not! Better phone HTC in the morning and see whats what.....

;)

A few reviews are up:

Just posted the verge one:

Interesting review from the Verge.....not exactly glowing but positive nevertheless.

I'll have to think about the RAZR and wait for some more reviews.

In the meantime I'm going to do some more digging around the HTC One X+

I need to know if the battery life is improved with the X+ that's the most important thing for me.

Anybody owned the HTC and the galaxy s3 ? Which one did you prefer?

Yes. GS3 was better from a software point of view, and for having a microSD slot. The One X was much better from a hardware point of view - nicer to hold, much better screen. But there's not a lot between them. It's a shame the One X hasn't sold as well.

Yeah, it is weird as the only thing that lets it down is the camera, everything else about is better than the X and GS 3 aside from possibly the audio (need gsmarena's review to properly compare) and the screen. Better hardware, better build quality, software (subjective this), way better battery life, a good NLED and it has a SD slot. IMO it looks better than the GS 3.

I bet if it had been branded by Samsung, they would have been shouting about how great and awesome it is from the rooftops :p

The X+ should have pretty good battery life as not only is the battery a good bit bigger, JB has supposedly improved the battery life on the X by a good bit, although not as good as the S and GS 3.

Another phone for your list, is the LG optimus G! :p

GSMarena review of the LG optimus G is up and it looks very promising!

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_g-review-835.php

Although they say this about the audio:

However, you look at the figures etc. the one S has the better/cleaner audio than it

Although it is very close, so doesn't matter too much unless you're an audiophile :p

Camera seems good, but the S/X and GS 3 still seem to be better.

Screen sounds great as well.

Regarding performance:

Battery life according to their test is very good, however, once again don't pay much attention to it as the S has the best battery life apart from the MAXX, note II etc. however, their test shows that the one X has great and better battery life than it, but as we all know it is pretty poor :p

JuAHK.jpg

Will be interesting to see how the battery, camera, performance and audio performs with stock android.

Why couldn't the LG nexus look just like the optimus G! :(

EDIT:

Got to say the LG software looks pretty good, although awful colour scheme :o It actually looks very similar to touchwiz . Noticed a bit of lag in some places, suspect this will be gone with JB though........

Also, that lockscreen and screen turning off animation is awesome! :D

Yes. GS3 was better from a software point of view, and for having a microSD slot. The One X was much better from a hardware point of view - nicer to hold, much better screen. But there's not a lot between them. It's a shame the One X hasn't sold as well.

"one X was much better from a hardware point of view" The GS 3 is better from a hardware point of view............ I think you mean from a build/design point of view :p

I haven't owned both, but had plenty of play time on them and read plenty about them, IMO:

X:

- design and build
- sense software

GS 3:

- better hardware
- SD slot
- audio
- far better NLED
- battery life
- removable battery
- smoother 1080P video recording and has better light metering
- more comfortable to hold

Screen is up to you, many sites and people still rate the IPS display in a different league to the 720P SAMOLED screen on the GS 3, however, many people and a few sites prefer the SAMOLED screen. I personally really like both, think the IPS is better in some areas like browsing, photos but SAMOLED is better for videos, games and the blacks are a great advantage.

Camera is more or less the same, GS 3 looks better in some shots, the X looks better in other shots. The camera UI and features/options are far better on sense/X though.

Personally wouldn't bother with the X now though, rather get the one XL (better battery life, one of the best there is in fact, far better hardware) or the X+ (better battery life, more storage)

Wow! Rip of those prices

Better just saving up and selling your old phone then buying the phone sim free and getting a cheap monthly SIM for the time being.

I agree with you - definitely need to do some more digging with the RAZR. It does look better than the S3 I do love the Kevlar back and the way the RAZR looks generally.

I don't use the camera much in my phones, hardly ever so I'm not bothered about the camera being worse than the S3 although the audio has to be better or on par with the S3.

If the battery isn't as good on the X+ as the S3 then I'm going to have to scratch the X+ off my list as I can really go through the battery on my S3 and the last thing I want is a phone that won't last the day.

TBH I'm still feeling burned after my experience with the HOX, the battery was extremely poor and barely last three quarters of a day although I understand that subsequent updates from HTC have improved the battery life quite considerably.

I'm never touching an LG phone, on paper the Optimus G is awesome on paper but after the Optimus 2X debacle (hardware and software problems) I'm staying well clear of LG.

Unless they've suddenly overhauled their software update strategy I don't have much confidence in the company.

GSMarena also echo my thoughts in the last part of their review. Awesome phone but LG really need to step up on the software updates front.

I will however consider buying the Nexus 4 as the software aspect will be delivered by Google, however I'm still not too keen on the design of the Nexus 4!

What's on your future phone list Nexus?
