*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

Just had the reversal notice through for the 2 unsuccessful orders.

Ditto :)

Anyone with Syncreon figured out how to check status through them, rather than through the Apple site?

edit: NM, had to use the "additional order number" in the sales number box.... very intuitive! :o

Really thinking about returning my Ipad after it arrives. I am thinking that a 4G one might be more suitable.

Apple website say they will pick up and there is no problems with returns.

Anyone got experience of this?

Apple offer a 14 day no questions asked return policy:

When I bought the iPad 2 I got the WiFi version and coupled it with a PAYG MiFi from 3. I find this a much more flexible solution as I only pay for data when I need it and I have mobile data for use with my laptop.

The MiFi will probably work out cheaper than buying a 4G enabled iPad.

My smartcase been shipped already, it said ETA for Friday.. But it's been sent via UPS and "Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change) Mar 13, 2012"

oh well, if it comes tomorrow and they don't leave with neighbour I'll just get redelivery for Friday. Then it will be who arrives first, TNT or UPS!

Same, but with the original iPad. My car is always MiFi'd up :)

If you want to make use of it from other devices like laptops or even multiple iPads then a Mifi makes sense. Personally I don't and only want mobile data on the iPad itself so a 4G version makes for a much cleaner solution for me.

On the odd occasion I want to use mobile data on a laptop then I'll just tether it to the iPad :)

As for changing your mind, can't you just cancel the order rather than go through the hassle of returning it?

Is anyone's else's UPS tracking number not working still? Mine was dispatched in the early hours of Sunday, but is not showing up on UPS tracking.

So the closer the new iPad gets, the more I'm thinking it's not a worthwhile upgrade from the iPad 2.

Within the UK, the only advantages are:

1) Better camera --> Very infrequently used and made redundant by having an iPhone and Photostream.

2) Retina display --> Obviously a technological achievement but all pictures on the internet make it impossible to see any major improvement. Bearing in mind at normal viewing distance the iPad screen is pretty good as is, cannot really see a massive benefit from having this.

3) Bluetooth 4.0 --> Could be good, but is completely unused by everything.

4) A5X --> The iPad seems fast enough as is and as people keep pointing out, it's not really good for proper portable gaming due to the lack of physical controls, so pushing graphics seems a little bit of a waste.

The disadvantages:

1) Heavier --> iPad 2 was already too heavy.
2) Thicker

With the UK unable to use 4G, that's a major feature that is useless to us. Add in Bluetooth 4.0 being an unused standard and the A5X not being needed, it seems an awful lot of money for a screen upgrade.

The retina display is a massive step forward. I plan to take it abroad and edit high res photos with it on the go. For this purpose it's a huge improvement.

I also watch a lot of 720p movies and TV shows on my iPad 2. Sometimes they're a bit jittery during action scenes so for the new iPad to play 1080p (probably without stuttering) is another big plus.

Who ever looks at their iPad THAT close up...

What one is the retina display now? ;)

Any 720p videos you are playing that a juttery on an iPad 2 are of a ridiculous bitrate then... any "standard" 720p will play perfectly on the iPad 2.

Going from the iPad it will be a massive difference to me, I'm glad I missed out on the 2.

It will definitely be a noticeable difference for me, did you see the difference between an iPhone 3G and a 4?

You'll still see a very clear difference at 'normal' viewing distances.

I can easily tell the difference on the 3.5" iPhone screen nevermind the iPad one.
