Tempted to go back to iPhone and take advantage of the 0% along side my existing SIM.

It's unclear though, can I opt to put a chunk down as a "deposit" to reduce monthlies a bit, or maybe start it and then chuck a few 100 in right away to do the same?

Not essential but would be nice.

On a pixel 7 pro ATM and it's starting to show it's age. And I feel upgrading to a newer pixel will be nice I'm sure, but won't really feel "new" as it will look the same on screen etc

Back to Pixel, there are just a few too many things I miss that I’m not gonna be able to do on iOS and they are really simple things too or so I thought (like having separate volume controls, moving downloaded images or video to photos)
I don’t like other brands with their own bloatware installed.
There are some things I will miss for sure, one of the simplest yet best for me is the copy and delete option when you take a screenshot. Although there may well be a way to do that now, one of the many advantages that comes with not being locked down.

Honestly I feel I'd be the same if I change.

Probably for for a pixel again ultimately. Too scared to try a Chinese phone and part of me thinks their following is "just to be edgy and different :D"

I think my gf can get blue light discount on EE to get the handset for £799, pixel 10 Pro XL that is

I’ve got the S26 Ultra version as a stop gap whilst waiting for my other case to turn up it’s nothing special and watching drop test results on YouTube it’s not a case I’d buy for long term use.

Been yo-yo-ing back and forth between my despised iPhone 17 and my 9A. The biggest issue with Android for me is the notification delay, I have tried so many things but still delayed on stuff which are time-sensitive.

Thats what stopped me entertaining the idea of Android. Someone did a huge post on this issue a year or so ago. Something to do with how Android hibernates IIRC.

I settled on staying with iPhones and bought an iPhone 17 pro max, not perfect, however it does enough well for me to stick with it for another 2 - 3 years.

Yeah if my 13 Mini wasn't pretty much dead I wouldn't even entertain switching. Albeit maybe without iOS 26 as I also don't like that,
 
So I had an opportunity to use the Air for a couple of weeks which rounds off the entire ‘17’ range for me.
When all is said and done, the 17 has prevailed time and again.
I initially bought the 17 on release and have since tried out the other three offerings from the series and every time I have gravitated back to the 17. It really is the pick of this year’s crop.
[Coming from a 15 PM] I really enjoyed the 17 at the start. The smaller footprint was (and still is) great but after a few weeks I was yearning for the larger display once more.
So I decided to try the 17 PM and almost immediately remembered why I’d changed from the 15 PM in the first place. While the screen was great the actual phone size and weight were not enjoyable at all.
I then tried a Pro because I’d took a notion that I’d make use of the 5x camera and the 12gb of RAM plus I wanted to see the orange model in the flesh - the latter was as awful as I’d worried it would be.

I plodded along with the 17 up until a couple of weeks ago when a friend gave me his Air to try out. I initially really liked it but ultimately ended up moving my eSIM back to the trusty 17 and continue to enjoy it much more than any of the others.
With regards the Air, there wasn’t really one or two individual things that I didn’t like, it was just fairly underwhelming as an overall package IMO.
The single camera I could easily live with as I only ever take snapshots on my phone and very rarely use the UW on my 17 as it is.
Prior to using it I expected the speaker would be the dealbreaker but it honestly wasn’t that bad. In fact, for a single speaker it’s actually quite good but ultimately doesn’t compete with any form of stereo speaker output.
I was never “wowed” by the profile of the Air either. Yeah it was kind of cool for a day or 2 but it is really just a bit “meh” now. Oddly enough, I actually prefer the overall feel of the 17 in the hand more so than the Air. I’m not sure if it’s the smaller footprint or the slightly more reassuring heft or what but it just feels better.
The one thing that did really irk me was the fact the Dynamic Island sits lower down the display on the Air which almost renders the extra screen space pointless.
Battery life was just ok. It got me through a day sure but there were periods I was putting it into low power mode to get through some days. It’s worth caveating here that I usually charge to 80%. In comparison the 17 easily makes it through a day from 80% and I’m often sitting at around 30% by bedtime.

Apologies for the long winded read but I just wanted to share my ramblings!

I think my initial intentions were to try and give a bit of an honest comparison rather than one of the countless YouTube influencers who churn out the same drivel just to suit a narrative at the time.
Although I’ve come dangerously close to that!

Anyone else have misaligned back glass on their phones? Mine was slightly off since new but has lifted in the last few weeks so I had it reset. Phone is a 17 Pro.

Great post to be honest, has answered a lot of questions I was thinking about this years phones - I got the normal 17 and I'm glad I made the right choice.
 
Just setting up my 17 Pro Max. Moved from a 15 Pro, having had a 12 Pro Max previously. I wouldn't normally upgrade after only 2 years but reading online there seemed to be quite a sizable jump. Candidly I didn't think my 15 Pro was much better than my 12 Pro Max !!

Its great to be back with a bigger screen. It feels like a really nice step up from the 15 Pro, like old phone upgrades used to feel like. Lets see what the future holds !
