***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

So any news yet? This phone is basically vapourware at the moment, got to be one of the most incompetent product launches in history :(

I gather from that that you didn't get yours. :p Three weeks before the next batch becomes available was the last news.

Well of course I didn't get it, it was never really available for purchase. You couldn't preorder, the only thing you could do was register for interest. When you got an email saying it was available....it was already unavailable. Now once again the phone isn't available for order, you can't even register for an email as to when it will be available for order.

It's mind boggingly incompetent, especially for a big company like Google.

They totally messed up the launch of the Gnex last year too. They literally have no clue how to launch a phone properly. I wonder if they actually don't want their own phones to succeed.

I'm tempted to bust a move to O2 and get one from there now, it's a lot more but if I keep the phone for a year or two which I probably will, it's no problem.

Anyone who has the phone migrated from the One X? Feedback after converting from the One X?

I have, and the One X is now on eBay (should be fun ).

The N4 is better for sure, it's faster/smoother and you can root it without jamming your warranty up your arse! If you have any specific questions, shoot away :)

They screwed up the Nexus 7 launch too. I remember ordering first from Google and then they released it early in shops so people were getting it before me even though they ordered it days later. And those who did order from Google after me got it before me.

Problem is media isnt covering how bad they are at launching devices every time, so they will keep doing it.

There are screen protectors and cases out to buy in the UK for the N4, why would you do any of that? Not only that, the phone came with a perfectly good front and back protector anyway, or at least mine did.

I was stupid enough to remove them and then they would not go back on and look good.

The protectors you can get now are rubbish and look horrible and don't fit well.

That is why I said high quality such as SGP as they aren't even visible once on the phone and that is why I improvised to protect it.

How does 4.2 run on the PadFone 2?

Opps, it's still on 4.1... No?

Ancient 4.0? That build still relies 'brute force' for 'smoothness'. Post comparisons when they're both running the same version. ;)

Your right about it being on 4.0.4 but brute forceing it as you said just shows how much better performance is. I can't wait to see it on 4.1 or 4.2.

Asus say an update is coming and based on how they have been updating their Transformer tablets I can't wait.

I think they will skip right to 4.2 because right now when you put the PadFone 2 into the tablet station it has the old style tablet interface with the app drawer in the top right corner. As we all know the N10 has the phone style UI and Asus obviously have the knowledge due to the N7 so once the PadFone is updated it will be even more fantastic.

Do you find much difference between the 2 screens?

Brightness outdoors, colours saturation, viewing angles etc.

Cheers Mekrel for your comparison.

Not a huge amount but the One X does seem a bit more saturated, viewing angles are still very good.

I've only had one sunny day since I've had the thing, which was yesterday. I use auto-brightness and it compensated for the light pretty well, I had no trouble taking a photo and making a couple of calls.

The problem is that there usually isn't much demand for Nexus devices after the first week which makes it a difficult product to launch. It's not cost effective to retool a large factory to produce hundreds of thousands of these in a few weeks and then when the demand dries up to retool them to something else.

The N4 display is much more washed out and dull than the One X and the PadFone 2. In isolation it's great but compared to the others it's blatantly obvious.

However the extra pixels on the phone do make text and images sharper and provide just a bit more content on every page which looks much better and is very useful.

I'm pretty sure it's something that can be adjusted in the kernel though, I seem to recall an OTA update for the Nexus S changing the colour temp and some people were not happy.

Just picked up another n4 for £399 in hove o2 store. They did not make me buy a top up. My current one is at £460 on eBay 6 hours to go. Lol

They haven't even emailed me, and I've registered my interest on every single product they had. :(
