***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Hmmm, going to have to think this over.

When I was considering different phones before I got the Nexus4 I found it easiest to just imagine how I will feel not getting the new features in Android 5.0 when they are released.

Immediate updates were by far the biggest draw towards to Nexus 4 for me.

Thanks guys that is a valid opinion the software is the most important aspect and future upgrades first makes it car better than any OEM phone for software. Will keep the N4 and say good bye to my HOX.

whereas the hox wont get any more now, unless its a HOX+

Eh?

We have no idea if that will be the case and I seriously doubt that it will be the last update for the one X especially since the device isn't even a year old.....

If they can provide the update to the X+ then they will have to provide the update to the original X as well because people will be absolutely raging that the exact same device essentially doesn't get the update and it isn't like much more, if any effort will have to go into providing the update for the X due to the hardware being the exact same.

The X came with ICS and got updated to 4.1 quite a while ago now and I will be shocked if it doesn't get 4.2 as nearly every good (flagship) phone gets two big android updates especially since 4.2 is hardly an improvement over 4.1 at all especially for sense powered devices, most of the new features are already present in sense V4+ in one form or another.

But yes, the nexus 4 will be guaranteed to get the latest updates as soon as they are released and get every update until the nexus 6 or whatever release (nexus one and nexus S no longer get updates and when the next nexus device is out I imagine the same will happen with the galaxy nexus)

Nexus S got official OTA Jellybean, so no signs they are finished updating it yet. I imagine the Galaxy Nexus will get key-lime-pie within the first week of announcement, and will probably stay supported up till version 6.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_burn-in#Plasma.2C_LCD_and_OLED_displays

In the case of LCDs, the mechanics of burn-in are different than plasma and OLED, which develop burn-in from luminance degradation of the light-emitting pixels. For LCDs, burn-in develops in some cases because pixels permanently lose their ability to return to their relaxed state after a continued static usage profile.

Stuck pixels aren't called burn in and is very rare. Computer monitors have static images. When was the last tim you saw an image get stuck?

You got caught out and now just searched the internet for anything you could find.

It got 4.1 but won't be getting 4.2:

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2224869/google-nexus-s-won-t-be-upgraded-to-android-42

It may still get minor improvements to fix bugs or improve little things though like what HTC are doing with the one V, no big updates but will still provide support.

I would hate to think that the galaxy nexus doesn't get any more update when the next nexus device comes out but going by their history I wouldn't be shocked if it does happen. Of course I could be very well wrong and it could get the next 3 big android updates. Hopefully by that time google will have sorted this update fragmentation mess out though!

4.1 is Jelly Bean to be fair.

By that logic Key Lime Pie might be given to GN.

I would be surprised if the GNex didn't receive KLP, but guess we will wait and see. None of this changes the fact that the Nexus line typically gets the latest version officially ~6 months before other OEM phones.

Those are for 4.1...Nexus18 is right.

As far as I know, Google update their devices until they feel that they do not run the OS well enough anymore. In all fairness, the Nexus S hardware is getting a bit long in the tooth and is probably getting to that point.

On another note, ParanoidAndroid. I used to use it but realised that using tablet layouts and whatnot just didn't work that well on a phone. The bigger problem is that the onscreen elements are too big (a problem with the design of some apps), not that the layouts don't work well. You can change the DPI settings for the apps, but you then end up with standard text that is too small (for example, posts in the Facebook app) and menu items that are just right.

The pie feature is taken from the AOSP browser's similar feature. While it works, I doubt many people have a problem reaching for the bottom of the display. Great if you desperately need more screen space though, for whatever reason (which I can't really think of, to be honest).

Yeah 4.1 and 4.2 are both known as Jellybean, 4.2 wasn't enough of an upgrade in order to get a new name :p

Yup, nexus devices will always get the newest android version very quickly in the developer scene too and often will be more or less fully working unlike all the other OEM devices.

And yes sorry, the galaxy nexus will definitely get KLP (getting confused with all these devices and numbers now! :p), the update after that, hard to say....

Nexus one came with 2.1, got upgraded to 2.2 and 2.3
Nexus S came with 2.3, got upgraded to 4.0 and 4.1
Galaxy nexus came with 4.0, got upgraded to 4.1 and 4.2 but since 4.2 wasn't a big update and is still under the same name, it should get KLP

etc. etc.

just picked one of these up yesterday!
what are the best cases for it and where to get them?

Happy with my Nillkin matte case, and other people on here have also been happy with it. They tend to come from China though so maybe not an option if you're in a rush.

It also depends what type of case you want. One that just covers the back, a pouch, a flip case, or a bumper. There have been lots of posts about cases but its a long thread to trawl through.

ebay and s-line is what i use, i have bought a few others but s-line works and costs a mere £1.50-£2.50, it offers full protection, which a lot of cases don't the top and bottom are exposed or buttons are exposed, etc.

get a coloured one if you want to be able to see the glitter effect or a clear one. avoid white (gets very dirty easily). get black for simplicity.

Thanks mate, didnt feel like looking through 250 pages to find out!
Will have a l look now :)

It would appear I'm getting stuffed...

Posted just before i did, so i missed this.

Ideally i'd like a bumper, i like the back so wanna show it off a bit.

Probably been asked a few times, but how scratch resistant is the front and back?

Who here leaves it naked and has no issues with scratches?

Cheers
