***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

I like the look of that extended desktop feature on paranoid android, enough i think to root and flash my nexus4. Anyone got it and can vouch for it being worth flashing over having a stock nexus or are there a lot of bugs?

Can anyone point me to a good root guide so that i can flash PA as when i google nexus4 root there are a tonne of diff guides some referring to clockworkmod and others to team something or another.

I just want to be able to put PA on my phone.

I'm running PA and it's the best rom I've used. Each release just keeps getting better. Personally use the tablet UI as it keeps the status bar and buttons at the bottom. Only time I expand the desktop if playing a game. There's a toolkit that can root for you very easy to do. Also like the lower dpi and the ability to customize the per app colour and dpi of all your apps makes it a unique rom.

AOKP, CyanogenMod, and quite a few of the ROMs based off of either of those have the Expanded Desktop feature. None of the others offer anything like pie though.

I found PA to be stable, aside from some of the new features they include not being perfect right off the bat (which is fair enough). Absolutely fine to use every day.

Rooting the N4 is dead easy. You can either use the root toolkit applications for Windows and Mac OS that have been created, or do it manually in cmd/Terminal using adb and fastboot (my preferred method, I just find it easier). See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975842

considering either a nexus 4 or a lumia 820. i can get the nexus for 27 pounds a month, free handset, 200mins, unlimited texts, 500MB data. The lumia is 26 pounds a month, free handset, unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB data. Both are o2.

Nexus pros:
- better screen (bigger and higher res and ppi). colours are also a bit better
- significantly more powerful. quad core and 2GB RAM vs dual core 1GB on the lumia
- more customisable (andriod vs windows phone 8)
- android currently offers a better choice of apps than the windows store.

lumia 820 pros:
- can accept a micro-sd card (BIG advantage since the nexus is limited to a measly 8GB)
- contract is slightly cheaper and i get double the data and unlimited minutes
- the phone is physically smaller (advantage imo) and better looking.
- battery is interchangeable
- novelty/fun factor of windows phone 8
- includes nokia maps which is really good, as well as microsoft office.
- has hardware for 4g when it becomes available.

Considering the above points, I'm completely stuck. I've ruled out all other phones so the choice is just between these two but I just can't decide. :( Can anyone help me with some advice?

Posted just before i did, so i missed this.

Ideally i'd like a bumper, i like the back so wanna show it off a bit.

Probably been asked a few times, but how scratch resistant is the front and back?

Who here leaves it naked and has no issues with scratches?

Cheers

I've not used a bumper case myself but I've seen a few people posting here to say they've bought the poetic bumper case and are very happy with it. Search the thread for the word poetic and you should find a few posts.

I guess an alternative is the official one but that's more expensive and still out of stock. I'm not really sure what other alternative bumpers are available.

Waste of money buying the Nexus 4 on a contract. The whole point (in my eyes) is that you buy it direct from Google for £280, then get a sim only deal. It works out a lot cheaper for what is effectively a S3/iPhone 5 competitor.

I understand what you mean but I don't have that much money at the moment to spend on a phone, however 30ish pounds a month out my income is ok.

There are about for guides on routing on that one thread and all seem different so not sure which to follow if I want to be able to install custom ROMs? Why can't a thread like that just have one of each guide lol

a lot is a strong thing to say.. :)

280 + 10x24(10 p/m as an example) = 520 and you should be able to get it on 20p/m soon-ish i guess, the prices are so bad because the availability(at a guess)

Presuming that is a 18 or 24 month contract ? I don't rate ether of those deals.

Also the nexus4 will be the 16gb version. Not the 8gb one

Woke up this morning and my nexus 4 has suddenly developed the WiFi problems that a lot of users are having. :(

WiFi connection keeps dropping on and off continuously.

All my other devices are fine so that eliminates my router.

Yeah, this is true, certainly for O2 contracts anyway.

As a comparison, I've got an N4 on contract with O2 for £26pm with unlimited texts, minutes, and 2GB data. There was an upfront cost, but that's mostly cancelled out by a discount I get on my broadband for staying with O2. I ran all the numbers repeatedly and talked O2 into the best deal I could get - it's still pricier than buying it from Google and getting a SIM only contract, but the price difference was acceptable to me, particularly since it stopped me from having to pay a ~£300 chunk of money upfront.
