***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Ok I scrapped 40 hours of battery life on moderate use (~2 hours of phone calls, email checking, browsing, etc). Email is set to fetch every hour, as I'm mostly in my office during the day I don't need mail downloaded constantly - if I do I just refresh it by hand.

Standard phone using out the box rom.

All I did was set screen brightness to auto, disable sync, broadcasts and gps. I have the power bar on my left swipe screen so if I need sync or gps at any point I can quickly access them.

So 40 hours is comfortably better than my iPhone.

Anyone know what the disadvantages are of turning of location reporting in google maps? Exactly what is it reporting to?

I think it is just google storing/remembering where you go at what time etc. and then it will show you on google maps in your history or something like that anyway :p

I haven't noticed anything different with it on or of, apps still access GPS/location etc.

so basically, you do not use your phone for emails then?

i also have a switch widget, i usually turn bluetooth on when entering my car, sometimes i also use gps and bluetooth together for when i need sat nav also.

i always leave sync turned on apart from when im in the gym, i also always have it on auto brightness. i have not touched broadcast, i have an unlimited data plan, so i let everything update whenever it needs to. i also use dropbox to auto save all my camera pics, etc.

Interesting, I wonder would it be any use if your phone was ever stolen?
Think I'll just leave it off for now, I'm sure I'll remember where I've been!

That is something that worries me about Google Now. It shows your home location, so lets say you are a woman and have had your hand bag stolen- the thief probably has your keys and if your phone is unlocked then they have very easy access to your home address.

I assume it is OK to leave GPS on? Does the radio only actually turn on when an app requests it and then I see the icon in the system tray?

Well, no. I use emails all day long, but I'm also in my office most of the day so why would I need my phone churning away pulling emails down every 5 minutes?

I use emails on the phone in the evenings, but typically to view and not write an essay.

I don't have any bluetooth devices.

I too have dropbox, but I don't sync my pictures with anything because I don't want my pictures shared. That said I'm not a heavy camera user.

My phone is primarily a phone, second a web browser and third an email client.

That's what I was having the problem with. I could not get fast boot enabled. I would hold both volume buttons and the power button and it was give me options like start recovery and another mode. I would boot up and when connecting to PC it would still be recognised as Adb mode.

Yeah, you're confused.

That black screen where you can choose recovery/reboot/etc IS fastboot.

Always have a lock is the answer.

I've always thought about having a fancy lockscreen but a pattern lock always wins out due to security.

The stock messaging app is a bit limited options wise, one feature I really miss from handcent is the pop up message screen. Not sure I want to install it again as I only ever used a fraction of the features

Try 'SMS Popup'. Just adds the pop feature to you existing sms app IIRC.

I also don't get the 'I don't use all the features so I won't use that app' argument - just doesn't make sense.
