***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

does franco kernel have the same screen calibrations that PA has?

ideally i want to keep the screen calibrations so i am worried about flashing kernels and losing PQ.

No unfortunately not, PA uses another kernel so if you want to keep the screen calibration the same then you shouldn't flash franco as it will change the settings.

I am running pa and flashed Franco kernel.. Went into settings and done the auto colour caliber and its put the colours perfect for me.. Blacks are great and the colours really pop.

Just installed the alpha of pa with halo. And its AWESOME!

My bad..just goes to show how much I use the franco app! :p

I should really make more use of it ;)

Can the alpha be used as a daily rom?

For ROMs, by default typically not, but it is strongly recommended that you completely wipe the device every time you flash a completely new ROM (ie. not a new version of a ROM). Pretty sure most ROMs do the wiping of the system/cache/etc. partitions for you. Kernel, you can pretty much just flash those as much as you want.

Where is this in the settings?

i think it's only available in the settings of the franco kernel app which costs £3.50, not the free version.

i just flashed the franco kernel and benchmarked antutu and got a much lower score than PA kernel.

also the colours are extremely washed out.

now i am contemplating about whether i should go back to PA kernel, or pay for the app in order to get colours back, going back to PA seems like the better option.

PA updater also is terrible for me, most of the time it fails on downloading updates (they just get stuck on a percentage), whereas goo manager doesnt.

also goo manager already does what PA updater does but better imo.

goo manager also works across all rom's not just PA, therefore i would recommend goomanager as the best way to keep up to date on a custom ROM.

also PA updater doesnt auto flash, like ROM manager does, i use goo manager to download the zips and rom manager (paid for version) to flash them.

Dont forget the other options such as undervolting and changing CPU frequencies etc..

I thought I might as well come here to ask a few questions as I'm considering purchasing this phone.

I currently have a Nokia Lumia 710 which has reception issues, according to Vodafone it's going to cost around £80 - £110 to repair and I don't really want to pay for it. Windows Phone is decent, but if I had the chance to make the same decision again - I would probably go with something on Android. {Not because Windows Phone is bad, but because the marketplace isn't exactly brimming with cutting edge apps).

I was looking online earlier and I noticed that for a 8gb version of the Nexus 4, you're only paying £230. {Straight from Google}

I'm currently paying £25 p/m for the 710, 500 minutes, unlimited* texts and around 500mb of mobile internet (that I really never use). My thought process is that when it's time to renew my contract in March of next year I could probably knock 15 off the same package just from not having a phone. (around £180 p/y saving).

However I still have some reservations about the phone, my brother has it and I've not really had the chance of playing around with it.

So I need you guys to tell me your experiences with the Nexus 4, if there's anything bad I should know about please tell me - I need to know everything about this phone before I go out and spend £230.

Thanks.

I think you will find most people have had positive experiences with the phone.imho it's a very good phone for the price. I would probably recommend the 16gb version as the lack of expandability may hurt you more.

If I had an issue with the phone it is the battery life.it's ok and I suspect it isn't far off any other phone but you can't use a spare battery in it so no carrying an extra one around.

I got round it by getting an anker 8500 charger, would be lost without that.as I say I suspect it is not much different in that respect from other phones.

Other than that it is a mid range phone that plays with the big boys.

Contract wise I would either suggest giff gaff at 10/12 a month or my personal preference three 12.90 per month unlimited internet.

you cannot get a better phone for under £300, simple as that.

you don't need a full in depth review, yes it does have some issues but if you want a phone without those issues you will need to increase your budget to £500.

camera is the main issue for me - it is okay, but coming from an N8 and a HOX it is poor in comparison

battery life has been majorly improved through the use of custom rom's and custom kernels (a must imo). so make sure you unlock the bootloader and root it straight away.

i have been using the phone for the past day without a case, and it is a lot better experience, but since it is extremely fragile, a case is a must imo, so therefore not much you can do about that either without spending more money in a HTC One. get a case from ebay for under £5 job done.

If I lost my N4 I would get another. Its a top bit of kit. My only fault is the camera is not quite as sharp as so e others. For the money its the best out there
