***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

just switched from a Faulty S3 to a Nexus 4

at the risk of repeating old news in the thread, can someone answer some questions for me?

1. Camera app is not brilliant, the one on the S3 was better, anything I can do to improve quality/functionality?

2. softkeys remain in games and full screen apps. why? its like 10% of the screen is taken up with buttons. is there a way to hide them without root.

The N4 is a great phone for the money. Let's hope the new X-phone will offer the same kind of value.

are motorola going to take over the nexus brand?

this is going to cause a lot of confusion if they dont, would it be better to buy a nexus device or a motorola since they are owned by google?

anyone know who is going to be making the new nexus phone which should be around in 6 months time?

1. Unfortunately the photo quality is down to hardware and poor software optimisation so you won't be able to match the GS 3 when it comes to video and photo quality. You can improve the camera app/UI by installing a 3rd party app like camera zoom FX, snap HDR (although it is more or less stock, just more features), Camera MX. Using these apps could improve the photo, video quality too.

2. App developers are lazy and haven't implemented it properly yet :p No way to do so without root afaik

Doubt it very much.

We will still have the nexus brand and any company could still provide a nexus phone.

The new motorola phones including the X are motorola's own flagship devices to compete with the GS 4 etc. however, google have been involved in the process too. The software will be more or less the same as the current motorola skin i.e. pretty much stock but tweaked to include more features and slightly tweaked UI/layout.

Supposedly LG will be making the next nexus, really hope not though......Hopefully it will be HTC!

recently was talking to a bunch of iphone owners, they then asked what phone i had, i said a nexus 4, they then enquired who makes that, i said it's the new google phone, after i gave it to one of them to inspect, he told the rest it was in fact made by LG, they all pretty much slated it after that, tried explaining to them that LG made it for google and that different companies make google phones as previously samsung had the contract. made no difference as soon as they heard LG, they assumed it was a turd.

it's amazing how well apple's marketing has basically brainwashed all the sheep.

I've given up trying to convert the 'Great Unwashed' that is the iPhone crowd.

The only 'Android' phone most have heard of is the Galaxy S3, if you say you have any other make (HTC, LG/Google, Sony etc..) they snort and go back to admiring their extra line of icons on their iPhone 5...

I'm not an Android Fanboy, I like Blackberry and Windows Phone 8. But I can't see the appeal of Apple over the rest having used all 4 devices!!

I love my Nexus 4 :)

The Youtube Android app seems phenomenally useless. I've tried reinstalling it numerous times, wiping the cache, rebooting my phone, etc. but it just constantly fails, crashes, or just says "Connection to server lost - touch to retry" but then still takes about 50 reloads to play the damn thing. Apologies if this has already been asked, but are there any good alternatives out there?

Thanks Nexus

I assumed as much on both accounts.

ho hum

Sound quality through the AUX cable is also horrible, and a major flaw. It's to the point where I'm considering buying a separate iPod just to use in the car. The whole purpose of the Nexus was to save money on an iPhone!!!

YouTube app works flawlessly for me. It's probably one of the major pros over an iPhone!

I've never had any probs with the ytube app on my n4, I'd delve deeper into the issue iiwy

Yup, I'm stock too, though I turned dev opts on to force GPU but that was recently and have had no yt probs before or after, I'm on 3 if that's relevant.

Hmm, I'll have to look further then :/ strange cos I'm just using the stock ROM and haven't really done much with my N4 yet.

Any issues with other apps? Maybe need an update/restore if so.

If it's just the YouTube app, trying clearing the cache and data.

Considering LG make some of the best screens on the market they are slightly confused.

Oddly enough I've had problems with it from the start :p I'm on GiffGaff but I have issues with it on both mobile internet and Wi-Fi.

No issues with other apps, and I'm able to stream from Netflix, and Crunchyroll without any issues whatsoever on both mobile internet and Wi-Fi. I've tried clearing both the cache and data numerous times as well as uninstalling and reinstalling several times without any luck :( I've been toying with the idea of using a custom ROM for some time now so I might just use this as another point in its favour.

I'm a heavy Youtube viewer, and I agree the official app is absolutely pathetic. Get TubeMate. You can choose to download or stream videos, and you can select the exact quality of the video for both too, rather than the app choosing the very lowest quality for you 90% of the time.

True, however they aren't known for making the best smartphones on the market. And for anybody interested in all things Apple, LG have a "bad" name due to some quality issues with their displays in Apple products. If you get a "good" one, of course they are no worse than any other display from any other manufacturer.

Like anything else, there are going to be fanboys, people who disagree, or people who simply don't care (simply not interested). Both Android and iOS have their positive and negative points, not really worth fussing about IMO.

AFAIK there isn't a way to do this without rooting, however there honestly is little reason not to root. ParanoidAndroid can do exactly what you describe.

The app may be sub standard but the op was having weird and extreme trouble which isn't the norm even for that app.

Ah, that sounds pretty useful :) will give that a try now, thanks!

Yeah, it sounds like there's a problem with my phone preventing Youtube from working as intended. I've had a look around numerous other forums but I'm not having any luck finding a solution despite there being a large number of people experiencing similar issues. I take back what I said about it being seemingly useless as I tried some alternatives that just weren't the same (and it seems my problem is as you say, more extreme than the normal) :p Guess I'll try a custom ROM after giving TubeMate a go since I've been meaning to test out Cyanogen Mod and Paranoid Android.

To be fair I seemed to have the exact same issues he did with the official app. Mine would constantly not respond, forcing me to kill it, and a LOT of the times the video wouldn't even load, or like I said before it would only load on the very lowest quality, which is unwatchable.

I should mention that you won't find TubeMate on the play store, since Google don't allow Youtube apps on there. You'll have to go to tubemate.net I believe is the official site.

That's pretty much what I was experiencing. Was starting to get really fed up with having to close the app over and over (which sometimes locked up my phone for 10 seconds or so, along with all the other playback problems it was having) hence why I came here to look for an alternative :p Ahhh, Google not allowing Youtube apps would explain why I couldn't find it or why the others on there were just poor, or not what I was looking for. I've managed to find a download from the official site now, thanks :)
