*** The official MacBook Air 13" and 15" thread (it's the best value MacBook and everything!) ***

That's not the answer I was looking for Raymond! :p Its the cheapest on Amazon as well .. The other colour I was thinking about is sky blue but that could be a bit too feminine for me:confused:

Mine was the only choice when I got it on discount last year. I did have reservation about the colour, only had the classic Silver and Space Grey before but the Midnight colour don’t bother me and in fact I would do it again for the next one if it’s offered. Sleeker, less common and less feminine, it a laptop can be masculine.

I was just about to buy the midnight blue one and amazon have upped the price by £40 in the last 30 mins  Looks like I'll got for blue after all, since I can't stand a another silver one and the golds out of the question.

Anyone have the blue one? Does it look OK?

Here's a question, I see a lot mentioned about the Air "only" having a 60Hz screen, does it make that much difference? Also I take it the laptop is capable of outputting more than 60Hz to an external screen?

That was the one reservation I had with getting a MacBook Air. Was used to 120Hz on a phone and 165Hz on my PC. My work laptop has a 60Hz screen and the step down was extremely noticable when using it, so my concern was the Air would feel the same.

But, using the Air screen is great. I think because the rest of the hardware keeps the system snappy and smooth, even 60Hz feels smooth. My work laptop hardware wise is pap compared to this Air, so it feels awful in use.

The blue one looks like the silver basically. It’s hard to tell it’s blue at a glance.

Here are all my Macbooks

2015 15" MBP (work laptop)
2018 13" MBP (Hot garbage, cost me £2300!!!) Space Grey
2025 13" MBA M3 24/512 Midnight

Thanks Raymond, that's genuinely helpful and that what I keep reading about the Sky Blue colour. I'll probably order the midnight one later today or tomorrow.

Thanks again.

You can, or can’t tell immediately the Midnight is a Mac. When as a long time Mac user I’m still not used to this colour, in a good way. When my sister and brother in law saw it last year they both were surprised it’s a Mac (they have an old MacBook Air themselves).

If you want a cool looking MacBook that most people don’t even realise this colour exists, Midnight is the one to go for.

I went for the light blue. My pictures are in this thread comparing it to my old silver MBP from 2015. It’s basically a slightly different silver tone rather than a bold blue colour. I really like it. I also pondered the black but decided against it due to fingerprints etc.

You’ll not go far wrong with either tbh. I’m as pleased with my 15” MBA as I was when I got my 15” MBP in 2015, and I kept that for over a decade!

I need to sort out the screen brightness as I think it’s slightly too dim on the power save mode. Saying that, I’m only charging about once a week, so it’s a good trade off!

Thanks all I ordered the midnight color in 13 inch, its replacing an old Ipad 12.9. I couldn't stomach 1300 plus on ipad when the air is capable of more and is cheaper.

I keep seeing Midnight Macs having absolute chunks out of them and connectors seemingly ground down with a silver ring at each one 'just from use'. Yours however looks like new @Raymond Lin. Is it just that you look after it and these people don't? Or do you go the extra mile, handling it with kid gloves?

I put it on and then leave it? I dunno. But it's not my main machine though.

Yeah, I couldn't work out whether it was down to misuse or just sheer use. It is definitely the best colour of those on the Air, but if I end up with one, I'll likely chicken out and go old-school with the silver.

I basically don’t use it at home since the MBA is only a M3 and my Mac is M4.

I use the MBP 2018 as a windows machine more than a Mac these days. Only needed the 2010 one last year when I had to get my old iPod Classic to connect to iTunes (rather than Music).

Hello everyone, I just recently bought a M5 Air Mac
Bought to use with Garageband and maybe Logic Pro eventually and I am wondering if I should return the M5 Air and just get a MacBook Neo as both programs will work fine on the Neo.

I also have an amd ryzen 7 8845hs Asus Vivobook laptop, which obviously cannot run the Apples programs mentioned, but can run windows DAWs, should I just keep the Vivobook and return the M5 Air, or should I get a Neo, just to mess around in Garageband.

What do you all think?

I also have a windows desktop for larger products, but like the idea of a fan less laptop for live tracking of instruments.

Personally, if you can afford the Air, keep it. The Air with the extra RAM can last 5-7, or even 10 years I expect. I mean I am using a M1 16GB at work.

The Neo with 8G of RAM will hit its ceiling in 3-4 years I'd image. Just in time for the students to finish university.

Just got my first Mac. My company got sold end of last year, so now I'm managing IT for the new parent company and the subsidaries as well and they love their Macs, so decided to get one so I can learn how to use the thing. I got an air and like how rapid and light it is. Trying to get used to the thing now. Stupid keyboard layout, needs a different dock, why use the command key for shortcuts which is in a stupid place? Sticking with it...
