**** The Official Nokia 8 Thread ****

ill be honest im not even sure what Oreo offers, do I need to be bother by it ?

usually android updates annoy me for a few days whilst i get used to the nuances, but ultimately (for me anyway) ends up being pretty much the same as before.
Personally I'm not sure. Android police tend to have great articles on the changes. They usually summaries it in one article but I can't seem to find it.

I have the update now as well, can't really see whats changed, although it is a brand new phone so haven't fully got to grips with it yet :)

8.1 update last week with february security update too. I do like the way Nokia are keeping this support up to date right now, but what about when the phone reaches end of its shelf life & its no longer for sale?

Well my 6 is technically eol as there is a new one coming out and I just got 8.1 yesterday with my monthly security update, so I would not be concerned. It is a major part of their marketing strategy.

Now reduced to £349 at carphonewarehouse:

Was waiting for the 2018 Nokia 6 or possibly the Nokia 7, but not sure if this is worth picking up? (Have heard of some quality control issues with this)
From what I've read its overall a great phone, the stock camera app is a bit pants and produces average images but using the Google app you get better photos.

For £349 if i was buying i would probably go for it.

Seems like a great phone for £349 - though I have to wonder how it compares to say an Honor 9, which is similarly priced.

I have a H8 at the moment, but with the lack of update support they give even for basic security Nokia are way better already, the stock like OS is rally to have also, Emui is pretty aggressive and annoying for some notifications.

My upgrade isnt due until September but i will be going the Nokia route for sure.

Yeah that's fair enough - I'd probably be the same. I can't stand any form of skinned android. Updates aren't as essential - just as long as they work.

OS updates arn't but security is quite high up, i'm not sure if anyone was every effected by Blueborn but i have Bluetooth on all the time for my watch, and with Nokia now signed up to the Android one system, 2 years of OS updates on new phones and regular security it will be like having a Nexus phone again.

Well, I always thought security updates would be useful, but my Pixel 2 XL seems to get slower, and doesn't last as long, with every update it installs. I don't want to be doing a software reset every month

Gave in and picked one up today - so will let you know how I get on.

First "high" end phone I've had - should certainly be an upgrade from my 2nd gen moto g.

The difference must be night and day!!
If the finger print scanner was on the rear, I would probably have got a Nokia myself.

It's world's apart - even just basic tasks like web browsing it's so much quicker (seems quicker than a desktop pc even) - camera seems fine to me, and lots of nice quality of life improvements going from Android 5 to the latest 8.1.

Tried the finger print sensor and while it works, seemed clunky and only recognised finger prints in a very specific way (e.g. wouldn't recognise if angled slightly), too fiddly imo so have turned off.

Only thing I miss is a notification light, but can live with that (as stops me checking my emails every second of the day).

Enjoy your new purchase. Always nice to get a new up to date phone going from an old unit!
