Strange, to be honest I had never tried it, so I just went online and gave it a go and it has pinpointed my house exactly

Did you have location services on? Wi-Fi or Data? It depends, data connection with location on works the best IIRC

Yes location on, data on as I was out and about... when I try to refresh phone location It says last seen 30/05.. and its pointing to my house. but its out of date and wont refresh

Then it is either off or run out of battery Im guessing?

Am I right in saying the GDR2 is a software update and the Amber is a firmware update?

Eliot, I don't suppose you know if Orange/EE will support data sense with GDR2/Amber?

God I hope so, it is really annoying that it was touted as a major feature of the OS yet available on very few networks (Verizon only I think).

This is the problem with updates, people get impatient waiting for the OTA updates and start flashing their phones without really knowing what they're doing and ending up with a rather shiny and expensive paper weight.

I'm guessing there is no difference between the version you can flash over the Nokia SW and the OTA update so how are people going to brick the device?

Over the years I've know many people bricking their phone or tablets then end up crying on the interwebs because they now have a £400 paperweight.

Yes but you are missing my point, why would they release two different versions.
Theres nothing wrong with updating your phone with the software, thats exactly what it is there for, OTA just means people can do it without needing to plug into a PC...
