** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Guys, the price is mental and anyone buying the FE knows they are paying a massive premium. I would hope those buying that will also be ripping off that transformer looking shroud and popping it under water.

Prices will settle but the typical price gouging is happening that we see with every generation of new cards is happening. Frankly I am more shocked that older forum members are shocked.

This is double gouging. Firstly Nvidia adding their ridiculous "FE" tax then retailers adding a wee bit on top for good measure (as they are entitled to do).

The real villains are Nvidia. The card should be $599 across the board which would probably translate to a ~£520 price point over here. Still overpriced, but nowhere near to the level it is currently.

So that's a) no idea b) no idea and c) no idea - which is exactly my point. The past does not dictate the future - we all learned that today.
Except we do have ideas for these things. 3rd party cards are unlikely to be more than a few weeks away. We know what the MSRP of the non-Founder's Edition cards is. And we know that reference coolers better than decent 3rd party cards for single card setups.

In what way has history been altered here so drastically that puts any of these in extreme doubt?

I know they are costly and overpriced, and I am ok with that as long as the "worse performing card in some way statement" is not true... That is something I want to avoid.
Is it really likely to be a worse performing card under water and OC'd? If its likely the answer to that is yes, then I too will wait!

Cheers :)
Ben
If you're water cooling yours, then that is a different story. Obviously how 'good or bad' the reference cooler is is irrelevant in that situation.

Looks like the £620 price tag has priced me out of getting a FE card, so I'll have to wait and see what the price of the AIB cards come in at.

We really need AMD to get their act together and provide a proper challenge to Nvidia at the top table if we want to see Nvidia cards at decent prices.

Unless partners release their cards within the next 5-10 days, then I will be buying 3 FE cards as the blocks I want (Bitspower) are going to take 2 weeks before release.

I don't particularly want to pay over the odds for the transformer scrotum as I am ripping it off almost immediately (once tested) but I don't want to wait more than 2 weeks to get these puppies in...

Cheers
Ben

Why are you buying 3 when 3 way SLI isn't even going to be supported?

I quite agree and feel the extra $100 is very naughty but on saying that, I am a mug and will buy one on day 1 :)

Founders edition + gouge tax is just stupid..
Seeing as it says this ref cooler ain't even all that. Ok if you take it off and are a mug then gg.

I hope they review 1070 b4 the partners are released.

Don't blame NVidia or the retailers. Blame the people who pay for it :p

No but the likelihood is that the money you save with purchasing non founders edition cards will completely pay for your waterblocks, so that added expense can be written off. Why would you voluntarily hand over +£100 (3 times apparently) for products that perform exactly the same as ones from the add in board partners arriving within the next 2-3 weeks?
