***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Lepin Super Star Destroyer, came within a week. Looks like everything is there so not bad for my first set.

Hi all! Loved Lego as a kid (who didnt) and think I might like to get in to it again now or at least have a go!

Could you recommend a good value kit or something to ease me in? My partner gets a loving discount at John Lewis so would probably buy from there.

I'm not a huge star wars fan but wouldn't mind a ship if they are recommended. Not in to the marvel universe etc.

Appreciate any advice given, could be the start of a new hobby! Only have Gaming and small time old game collecting as interests lately!

it might be good to start with something like the VW Camper, Mini or F40? Good models, not too big but still have quite a few nice touches and a decent size. Or if you're after something more complex look at some of the mid range Technic models? The Claas Tractor is supposed to be a good kit.

I'd look at the Creator series modular buildings, especially if I have a discount. Palace Cinema etc, they're all great.

My favourite so far though has been the fishing shack. It's really a nicely polished model. Lots of detail.

It depends on what you like to build, do you like buildings, cars, machinery?

The creator F40, London Bus, Mini Cooper etc are all really good to build, then we have the Lego Architecture, which are based on famous landmarks, all of these are fairly easy to construct and great introduction to Lego.

Then we have Lego Technic and for value the Lego Technic Claas Tractor is very good value and is a reasonable challenge but not impossible to new comers to build.

As for Lego Star Wars if you fancy a ship, the newer X Wing Models are a breeze to construct and look really nice once completed, and are reasonable priced now. Also welcome to Lego again. I play video games and model building, Lego as hobbies, good variation.

Would absolutely recommend the Fishing Store at the moment, especially if you are usure of what you are actually looking for in a set.

Lots of charm and great little details in the set.

That fishing shop looks lovely but as a first intro build I don't really want to spend more than say £50 with her discount applied so the model could be around the £70 Mark for us to pay 50 if that makes sense

Sorry I should have said that in my first post :D

Not really sure what I would like to build which doesn't help :D

The Caterham car looks nice, I make parts for the real deal at work so might be a nice one to do though it looks a bit bland as a finished item doesn't it

Poe's X Wing is £54 and after your discount that would be a cheap Lego to get you back into the build process and ways Lego tackle issues and use Lego elements. Just a suggestion.

Can you stretch to £80 and get the Saturn V once it is back in stock?

As a first model I'm not sure the Saturn V is particularly good... both because of how repetitive quite a few parts of it are to build and because some of the steps are a little tricky judging by people's comments online (I found it to be not too bad, but I've built a lot of Lego before!)

Agree. I think it wasnt a great build (bar the internal structure)

I love the look of it but I agree that it may be a bit complex for me :D

I'll go with the xwing or the f40 I think. Anyone got any photos? Want to see how big they are :)

It's opposite. It's not that complex. There are 100s of identical pieces that make up the shell. Looks amazing. More for the finished article than build
