ah right, that explains that then. i saw a 7200rpm drive for the same price as a 5200rpm drive, shame they dont work. any reason why? as i though drives were plug and play?

The 7,200RPM ones are old, I wouldn't want one now. If it's branded as Momentus XT it's an old one, the new ones are branded Seagate SSHD.

nope, they couldn't work it out on the forum i looked at and multiple people were complaining about them not working.

some people say that some SSD's don't work either or they work but the PSN store doesn't load.

if you are looking at a drive make sure 100% that it works before you buy it by googling the model number and the word PS4.

Really hoping Seagate get their fingers out and make a 1Tb+ 7200rpm SSHD, though from the quick google Ive done it looks like they are just looking to replace 72000rpm with 5400rpm SSHDs now, so it may never happen - more likely to see a 1.5/2Tb 5400rpm SSHD from them next...

Normally Id expect WD to do something in this area but they are doing some wierd dual drive solutions rather than SSD caches...

The 5,400RPM one works fine though, I can't see why they'd go for a higher-RPM one again. Very quiet too, mine is certainly quieter than the drive my PS3 came with.

7200rpm always going to be quicker in non-cache instances; with such a small SSD cache and with games with such huge texture files not everything is gonna be on-cache all of the time...

Anyway we are talking mere seconds whichever way you wanna cut it :)

and slower in cache instances, it's swings and roundabouts.

i will eventually get an SSD once you can pick up a decent 250GB one for around £50.

i don't need a huge drive, i will likely never fill a 250GB one.

It's not though; I read a review several months back of the newer 5,400RPM SSHD against the older 7,200RPM Momentus XT. The SSHD was faster in some instances, slower in others, presumably as a result of improvements to the firmware the drives operate on.

In any case, I personally don't think they'll bring another 7,200RPM 2.5" hybrid drive out, given the main market for these drives is for notebooks, the effect on battery life will be a concern which is presumably why they dropped to a lower RPM in the first place.

That seriously made me lol :p :D

On another note, pre-ordered Infamous bundle :) quite looking forward to getting my new toy !

He was looking at a TV just over £400

I said he would be better off spending a few quid extra on a £490 tv if he's looking at a tv at that price point.

what's so funny about that?

like people come on here saying spec me a phone for £200 people say you would be better off adding £49 and buying a Nexus 5.

Unfortunately that looks like the case, shame as for the application in question the 7200rpm variant would have performed better and still be in the same cheap ballpark compared to SSDs...

Does anyone know how difficult it is to get hold of a PS4 now?

I'm looking at buying one in Argos but I'm not sure how difficult it is to get hold of one?

Do you still have to reserve to get store collection or can you just be lucky and get one straight away in the store?
