I'm wondering what the official line will be from Sony regarding buying cross gen games on PS4 and PS5? It would be nice to know that if you buy a game on PS4 you'll automatically be able to run both the PS4 and PS5 version of the game of you decide to upgrade your system?

Have Sony said anything about this topic?

Sony have said bugger all but it will be up to each publisher to decide this anyway. Some of them have already gone on record, like CDPR said you'll get the PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 for no cost. EA have said the same with Madden 21 and FIFA 21.

My main concern with the PS5 is the thermal side of it, I really hope they've nailed it. I'm really torn with XBSX and PS5, I prefer Xbox layout etc and it has Halo but at the moment the PS5 has more appealing games. Might just grab both as PS usually has the best exclusives. Borrowed a PS4 and bought TLOU2. Going to order GOW/Spider-Man and Uncharted 4. No denying PS4 had the better exclusives imo.

Sony doesn't have an equivalent of Smart Delivery, they said it's at the discretion of third-party publishers. CD Projekt Red confirmed that those who purchase the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 will receive the next-gen upgrade for free when it's available.

Halo will no doubt pop up on PC anyway so if you have a decent spec PC you’re golden.

I'll probably get both eventually but I'm getting the PS5 this year. Mainly for the exclusives and the promise of VR support in the future.

I might wait and see if there's a budget digital only version of Xbox as I only really want it for Halo/Forza and maybe the occasional month of game pass subscription.

There will be an S version of the Xbox that’s supposedly a good bit cheaper and digital only so you’re in luck

The power is the main attraction of the Series X for me for multi plat titles

Might cheap out on the digital PS5 for exclusives once they appear and come down in price

Next time why don't you try all caps to compliment you bold, underlined, italicized extra large font :p

There really wont be a massive difference between the two anyway if any, most games will just be 4K 60/30 but with high/ultra settings.I am just getting the PS5 because of some exclusives.

I just can't justify a Xbox when I have a capable PC, utterly pointless. PC + PS5 has me covered for everything besides Nintendo games.

Still can’t make my mind up between a PS5, Xbox series X, or 3080Ti
Think I’ve made my mind up to get a PS5.

A 3080Ti will cost me around £1300 (maybe more), plus if I wanted to play in 4K (anything less would be pointless), I would need to upgrade my monitor. A decent 27inch 4K monitor is still around £800, so that would be nearly £2.5k!

In my room, I also have a TV setup of a 55 inch upper range HDR1500 Samsung QLED (Q85R), with a great Samsung soundbar Atmos system.

So £2500 for maximum 4K on a 27 inch screen or £500 on 55 inch 4K gaming with much better HDR, but slightly lower settings and FPS.

I think it makes sense to stick with my current card and 1440p gaming, and get a PS5 for 55 inch 4K gaming.

There's really not that much difference between the two. It's basically the same as PS4 Pro vs XB1X. Plus the data transfer speed of the PS4 SSD might actually give it an advantage over the XSX.
I do find it strange buying a console for multi platform games. I buy mine for the exclusives and Sony just has better exclusives.

That would aggravate me though. I would always want the best version possible (excluding PC). Digital Foundry will be the place to be come November. I'll be picking up whichever version has the most anisotropic filtering and HBAO+. :D

I find it strange that people think they already know the lay of the land when so much information is still missing.

What is the base clock of the PS5's CPU and GPU? For how long can the boost clocks be sustained? How will the difference in SSD speeds manifest in-game? What are the launch line-ups of the two consoles?

On the specs and games, no doubt we'll know the situation within the next two months. The SSD, on the other hand, I think it will take a while to understand the impact of the difference, particularly given the differences in hardware elsewhere in these systems.

It's the reverse of PC, it has a fixed power budget. So the boost clocks are the base clocks. Then if the CPU gets some instructions that are power hungry (like AVX) it drops the clocks for a short time.

My issue with getting the PS5 at launch is the lack of a 'console seller'. I know Sony and its third-party partners are yet to finalise the launch lineup, but to be honest it's looking pretty sparse at the moment. I think I'll probably buy a PS5 in 2021 when they release Horizon Forbidden West, and in the meantime just use my PC for all the multi-plats and the MS titles.

My Pc is starting to struggle (6700k 1070) especially at 4k would cost a lot more for a new Pc build

Seems a good deal (hopefully) for the Xbox until more powerful cards become available and affordable

Will many exclusives be available at launch ? maybe Spiderman not that fussed about that

Not overly bothered about the power of the PS5 as long as Sony continue to provide the amazing exclusives the PS4 had.

Not sure I could justify getting an Xbox as well considering how dry this generation has been for MS as well as the availability of Game Pass.
