****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I also noticed i dont have the .nv_data file in step 5, i only have nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 :(

EDIT

Ok i just used the nv_data file and carried on.

Got through all the steps, i rebooted, and nothing had changed, still no imei etc.

I also noticed that the efs folder just went back to looking like it does in my previous folder, no imei folder, no nv_data.bin, no nv_data.bin.bak :/

Seems it is screwed dude. My EFS backup looks like this:

It is either a Samsung job or get in touch with a guy called Odia on the XDA forums who has a trick or 2 that may fix it but for a small donation.

maybe the folders have wrong permissions?

Do you have a .nv_data.bin file?

Im gonna revert back to stock firmware, root it and try again, seems to be a problem with the phone when it writes the new efs folder, hopefully its just the rom, and then i can continue repairing it, fingers crossed! :(

Inside efsbackup.tar.gz I do.

tbh just flash a stock firmware and stop trying this for now and see if it works
Flashed the latest stock ICS rom, got a generic IMEI and the baseband is back, its picking up the O2 network, now i need to put my own IMEI back on, gonna try HC-kTool purely because it worked before.

EDIT: Okay that didnt work, just left me with the two folders; wifi and bluetooth like at the start, going to reflash stock again and just use the manual method.

Okay so i finally got there in the end!

I used my nv_data.bin file instead of the .nv_data.bin file.

The GSII_Repair and HC-kTool were useless, becuase i think they tried to repair the efs from what was there in the first place, ie a 'broken' efs.

Whereas the guide Locke kindly linked me to advised me on how to use my own efs backup to repair my 'broken' efs.

Interesting to see how the hydrogen rom didnt rebuilt my efs properly when i deleted it to start over, and that i had to revert back to stock firmware to rebuild my efs. Another interesting point is even with the efs rebuilt thanks to the stock rom it still didnt give me an imei, it was only when i used CF-root that i gained an imei, albeit a generic imei.

Nevertheless i am happy ive got my imei and everything back! And i shall be making copious amounts of backups :D.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice.

What Kernel was you using just out of interest?
Cant remember to be honest, think it was just stock? I went from Checkrom straight to hydrogen.

Can anyone recommend a good rom now? Prefer the look of the stock ics as oppose to samsungs

so i was right changing rom helped! woho... im on omega ROM at the moment its stable has some little bugs but all ROMs do.. one thing tho i find battery to be just OK

Switched to Hydro from Omega and I'm finding it a lot more stable. Battery seems a tad better but probably best I'm going to get anyway with the stock battery.

Went through them all paranoid, slim, on omega atm, but it seems a bit slow when i wake it up via the power button, sometimes when the screen comes on its not responsive at all, i cant put my pin in, and i have to lock it/turn the screen off and try again. Never used to happen in hydro, has anyone got the xda link for the hydrogen thread? If i remember they stopped making hygrogenics? If so what has superseded it?

tbh ive been going through roms lately and all of them have bugs.. so i just went back to stock ICS from samsung and im quite happy with it as it is.. may not be as nice but it seems to work the best

Just got me an SII.

I've had an HTC Desire for 2 years, and played with all sorts of ROMS. Ended up on Cyanogen with Launcher Pro.

Completely not got a clue about ROMS for the Samsung. Currently just updating to the latest stock ICS from Samsung.

What roms do you recommend? I think I'll give the Samsung interface a try for a while, but will probably end up with a plain android with a separate launcher. Unless there is any real reason to keep the touch wiz interface?

no reason to keep TW but changing a launcher on ICS sammy rom is more than enough tbh! :) its stable in my eyes and with root it doesn't really need anything else :)
