**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S9/S9 Plus Thread ****

Just to play devils advocate here.. it appears to have 3 of those 4 things.. although I suspect by much better you mean like days.. like physics bending better?

I don't actually think this is designed to attract S8 owners anyway, beyond early adopters.. I mean Apple have done just fine with a tick/tock kind of thing and as I've said before.. where do you go with all screen?

Similar to cars, at the start there was all sorts of crazy then it settled down to the basic shape and layout we've had for 50+ years.

I'm afraid we're near there with phones.. they're glas and aluminium slabs running 1 of 2 operating systems so scrap it out for incremental bumps in camera quality and nonsense like siri/bixby/animoji etc

Yes, I mean days, tired of everything else improving but battery life always staying around the same....

And no, the tech. is there, been articles about some new tech over the last few years where battery can last for ages but won't be used due to cost and not being to mass produce it or something along those lines.

And yup I don't disagree but at the same time, I'm sure some day, there will be a new big thing i.e. I think the next big thing for mobiles will be an all in one type of thing i.e. a bit like what Samsung are already doing with the dex/desktop system and having the phone be your main system, I can see this being the norm come a few years down the line, long gone will be the days of laptop and desktop PCs, instead (at least for the "average joes" out there), place your phone in a bay or something and have that as your "media/gaming" etc. "PC" but we are still a long way of that.

Oh and foldable displays.....

Think I'll be picking up an s9+. The exynos version is looking like the single core power will be nearly double that of the s8. Much improved camera. 6gb of ram. Stereo speakers. I'm rocking a note 4 though as my note 8 broke and went back so its a huge upgrade for me either way.

What more can they do I suppose.

No reason to ditch my s7edge.
Only the camera appeals at all, not sure single other reason to go for this.

Nice little upgrades but the curved screen still does my head in. As does touchwiz or whatever its called.

I concur kona. These two factors are the reason why the S9 isn't on my radar.

Call me old fashioned but I much prefer a flat screen phone.

The great big bezel across the top (and bottom) of the screen? Can they not do what Apple does any push the screen to the edges? It looks so good on the iPhone X.

Sorry thats just total fanboying.. have you used one? Your idea of a great big bezel is silly. I mean the iPhone X is beautiful but to suggest there's much of a meaningful difference in screen to body ration between the 2 is laughable.

EDIT - From GSM Arena

Screen to body ratio
Apple iPhone X
81.49%
LG V30 83.24%
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 82.63%

We have to say that the usable area on the iPhone X is slightly less than the 81.49% number suggests – the two “horns” on top are only good for notifications but not content. We’ll compare the Super Retina Display’s surface area to a traditional 16:9 screen in the next article.

PS. in case you're wondering why the Galaxy S8/Note8 were not included, it's because the curved sides of their screens make such measurements quite difficult.

EDIT AGAIN:

https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/bezel-less-phone-comparison/

S8 83.6%, S8+ 84%, iPhone X 82.9%

Now personally I think that's a non story but since you bring it up.. be proved wrong :)

It's the appearance that's the problem, not the screen to body ratio. The S9 looks silly in comparison to the iPhone X because of the thick top and bottom bezel.

Personally I think the iPhone X looks silly with its notch. In fact any phone with a notch looks silly.

The Nexus 6 is still by far my favorite designed phone.

After owning both a S8+ note 8 and iPhone x I have to say that the notch on the iPhone X was the worst of the 3. Plus it has thicker bezels on the side. It was something that I didn't like and couldn't get used to. A flat bezel across the top is a much better option.

Again, horses for courses but calling them thick is pushing it tbh..

Smacks of either buyers remorse or blind fanboying.

Put it this way, you're literally the only person I've ever see call them anything other than almost non existant
