The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

To use Plan-G networking, you can use FSUIPC if you have WideFS or you can use Simconnect, which I had difficulty setting up, but it hangs together 90% of the time.

If you don't have a monitor, but have a tablet PC, you could use that as a 2nd monitor.

I did look into using an ipad etc for Plan-G / Chart viewing etc but it would've meant running FSX in windowed mode...not something I'm keen to do given the drawbacks this would bring

I plan to build another lesser system soon to run my FSX addons on a network

I should be free a good bit over easter. Would be good to get another vatsim session.

Nice!

Nowt wrong with windowed mode. :p

It's Vatsim's 'Cross The Pond' event this Saturday.

So if you ever wanted to see busy virtual skies, you can look at the excellent viewer webiste:-

http://vattastic.com/

Or if you're a new member to VATSIM, you can park your Cessna in a far corner of one of the airfields, put that you're a newbie listening in your Flight Plan and tune into the many ATCs that will be online.

I've never done it. I'm a domestic flyer. :o

There is a guide on Vatsim Oceanic Procedures here:-

http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/oceanic-procedures/

I'm sure one day V can persuade us to stay up all night Friday for a 8 hour flight..

Bristol Tower and Ground will also be on most of Saturday day too and I'm sure they'll be happy to accept any standard of flyer to keep them busy.

And as much as I'd like to drive the 'follow me' car or tug from Traffic X around Heathrow that day, it's just not allowed..

And finally I redid my Glasgow to Cardiff flight and it was much much better.

Good morning,

I managed some good flights this weekend.

On Saturday I flew the Glasgow to Bristol flight and made use of Glasgow Tower, Scottish Control and London West on Vatsim. There was loads of traffic and I had a 747-400 follow me a lot of the way before overtaking and heading off to Gatwick.

It was almost a perfect flight in the 737-700 except my HDG button clicked off and I didn't realise. On my next instruction, I changed heading and the plane drifted off course.
I quickly rectified and setup for an autoland on 09 at Bristol.

Last night I flew from Dublin to Bristol in the 737 and I did a rubbish manual landing on 09. The naff wind crossover in FSX gave me nice wind shear for a landing on the grass.. (Yes I should have gone around..!)

I've also learnt with my throttles, sometimes they 'kick back in', so when I'm descending and slowing, suddenly I'll be overspeeding and not knowing why. I need to investigate further. At least I know what to look out for.

This week I am free Tuesday, Wednesday and then Monday of the Easter Weekend if anyone's about. I can put some VFR UK Plan-G plans up tonight.

TBH if you're looking to upgrade I would recommend trying to get a good second hand GTX 580.

FSX is very reliant on the memory bandwidth of the graphics card; and the 580 has more that the geforce 600's. (GTX 580 has 384-bit mem bus, GTX 600's have 192-bit mem bus)

If you have a look over the avsim forums regarding system specs you will see that quite often the GTX 580 is touted as the top GPU for FSX due to its power and memory bandwidth.
FSX will not really benefit from a GPU any newer or more powerful as it is a heavily CPU reliant program

I run FSX @ 1920x1200 and use a lot of addons and my GTX 580 handles it very well; its' my CPU thats holding my FSX back nowadays but I'm not willing to shell out hundred of pounds for a new mobo, cpu and ram to only get an extra 500(ish) mhz...I'm holding off for a generation of CPU's that will run @ 5.0ghz+ without the need for liquid O2 to cool them :D

And if you get high on sugar this weekend, here's a little flight you can do.

Bristol to Liverpool taking in the coast of Wales.

Just kicked off the easter holidays with a VATSIM flight down to Morocco. There was pretty good ATC coverage throughout. I forgot how good flying online really is! It does get a bit hectic at times but great fun.

I'm back in the UK on Sunday and keen to fly.

Happy Easter all.. Don't forget to check around the online flight sim shops for special Easter discounts, I saw a sale at both Aerosoft and Just Flight.

If you see any others, feel free to list them for others to see.
