Flight sim x help

Hi all, just a quick question to anyone who plays flight sim x. I have recently started getting into it (am in no way any good, but any landing you can walk away from is a good one).
Anyway my flight sim experience is never as good as the youtube vids or the screenshots I see on here. My scenery never looks good, and I get terrible fps when I turn up the settings.
My pc isnt the best gaming pc in the world but its not too bad either:
i5 2500k @4.5 8gigs gtx670. Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong? or is this game just very demanding.

Do scenery addons make a big difference? Any help would be most appreciated.

Best to post all FSX related stuff in this thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18172358

It's currently 112 pages long...put the kettle on, put your feet up, clear your schedule and start reading.

Also get a pen and paper, or word document open to write down notes as you read

Any questions you are likely to have about FSX will be thoroughly answered in this thread.

virtually all of the 'fancy' FSX videos posted on youtube will be created using multiple addons (textures/ aircraft / scenery / sounds) also most of them are heavily edited in Sony Vegas or other video editing software to add realism

My own personal install of FSX (including all scenery) is getting near 850Gb...FSX can become a very time consuming and expensive hobby...but SO good :D

Thank you :) I will check that thread out. Wow thats a lot of memory dedicated to it, I can see a new hard drive in my future.
Nice screen shot as well by the way.

Yep 850GB sounds about right.
Haven't had FSX installed for a while now but I remember that tweaking it, installing addons and getting it to look just the way I wanted, almost took more time than actually running it, but when that was achieved, it was a dream :D

Morning all. I will be online on Mumble from 4.30pm today. The logon details have been posted numerous times in this thread.

I'm up for VFR/IFR flying, meet n' greet, helping get the best from FSX, Vatsim, EFB, Plan-G etc. Hope to see you there. Look for my username in one of the rooms.

Andrew.

Welcome to the FSX world/thread Jamdale, you should be in good hands here, plenty of info in this thread with tons of useful links and also lots of experienced and helpful people here.

Like Ghutchison said, it will take some time and lots of patience, but if you have that, flight simming can be a real joy and a great time consumer.

I would also probably recommend reading the info in this thread not from the start but from the end and work you way back, as there is probably more up to date information/links in more recent posts. That way, if you are taking notes, you won't need to erase some old notes for new ones. Also, you can skip past most posts that just have screen shots in them, that will be @30-35% of this entire thread, which will save time.

Have fun and good luck.

hello mate, that could work! Will try my best..

On another note, trying to update Aivlasoft EFB with the latest patch but getting a error every time. Did you managed to install it?

Also the ones who are using Nvidia have you tried the latest drivers? I have, and my rig is just not running right  Flight Sim plus some of my other games. Not sure what it is?

I haven't installed the latest patch.

I got Manchester ground map working and am loving the product's depth. There's always features I'm finding. Expensive, but worth it.

I'm on Mumble now if anyone's about or can try and help your FSX questions from this thread. I don't mind if the question has been asked 100 times already.. :p

I was hoping EZDok camera would be in a sale somewhere. But I don't think it has been.

Sorry, I was out a bit longer than I thought. I'm around this week so hopefully we can fly then.

I'm not sure why I cant install it. I'm away for a week and come back and nothing seems to be working right with my PC :(

what is Manchester ground map?

Bit of a long shot but does anyone have any experience in using Flight Sim with software such as Matlab/Simulink? (possibly from DIY simulators)

Finally decided to buy FSX last weekend, used to play FS4 a little but never put the time in to be any good.

Got Orbx England and the difference is staggering, been practicing my radio / nav / takeoff and landings by bombing around liverpool / blackpool and all the small airports doing as many landings and takeoffs as i can in the default Cessna.

I'm thinking of buying one of the Carenado - Cessna's, are they worth it over the standard planes?

I think they are worth it. They are much prettier and seem to fly well too. Carenado also offer planes not available as default. I really like the 337 although I do wish I could wash the windscreen sometimes as I keep thinking I've a dirty mark on my monitor ;)
