That booster was fully committed!!! :eek:
Starship engine bay looking a little bit rough as well, evidence of some damage to the inner part of the outside fairing, there was some glowing and what looked like some venting, potentially that might have just been over pressure venting though, not necessarily evidence of internal leaking that plagued V2.
I mean they seem happy enough to push through and termination system is safed.

Payload deploy seems to be working well.

Well that was genuinely impressive, mostly let down by the Booster boost back failure. Considering how problematic Starship V2 had been, for the first flight of V3, that was generally very positive.
 
Great footage of the landing burn and splashown. I love the way it banked and turned on descent and landed presumably right where it was supposed to. A few things to work on bu V3 Starship looks like a nice step forward.
 
Yeah impressive, pity about the stage 1 landing, that will set back a catch attempt for at least 2 more landings imo. But it's a whole new ship design so think of it that way plus new v3 engines, 2 engine failures isn't bad.

Based on the hot staging and that crazy flip, maybe they got that a little wrong timing wise and it could have caused that engine failure.

I couldn't make out what angle I was looking at as stage 2 came in on that drone view right at the end, was it looking up?

Either way epic as ever. And we should get even better views in the future with all these drone shots :)

Continues to be pretty impressive to get footage of the landing zone, especially so on just two of the main engines firing throughout the entire journey.
 
Seems to be the opposite of the V2 testing in that the ship preformed well, while the booster had all most of the issues.

The way the engines flamed out and some didn't light I was wondering if the new more complex downcomer arrangment may be at fault on this one. If so it may not be a quick fix unless there is a simple baffle plate they can add.

Yeah this maybe what Scott Manley is guessing here, and a failure took out the others, but wait for SpaceX to confirm.

 
I would love to see a proper video of the landing, the last V2 landing look really controlled and if the first V3 is the same then they are demonstrating enough control for the eventual tower catch.

It landed were they had place their drones despite having an engine out which is another good sign but I do wonder they they only fired 2 engines for the landing flip?

Wasn't that part of the test? To see how controllable it was with only 2 of the engines?
 
Yeah I believe the V3 engines are powerful enough to only need 2 engines for the landing of the 2nd stage. They didn't call out a nominal insertion because of the failed engine on ascent, but manged to burn for longer to compensate, Scott Manley mentioned that because stage 1 didn't do a controlled landing and hit the ocean at 1000kph it's a crash as far as the FAA are concerned but that shouldn't delay the next flight, which maybe 2ish months away.

SpaceX need to demonstrate they are in full control before they decide to come in over Mexico for a catch attempt. All new V3 rocket so I think fair enough.

A big plus is the heat tiles seemed to be way better, I didn't see any missing titles, there were some white titles but that's part of the testing.

The image of the engines is pretty amazing, I dunno where the colours of coming from, maybe during hot staging but they are pretty epic, some parts glowing red and parts covered in frost :)

You just know that there are those smooth brain types that are arguing that you cant stream 4k from orbit when they cant even Facetime their fatheruncle the other side of the swamp....
