The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

29s is what I got too... on en "everyday" system with a less than fresh install. I was just checking as I had someone on my forum telling me 29s was high for 3ghz... but for an unoptimised, non-benchers rig I think it's alright.

I never do that... a baked bean is FAR too much, wow. I get a razor/credit card and spread a paper thin layer over it. That way it ensures peace of mind that you get a smooth, even contact with the HSF.

With your cooler mate you should be more than fine for 2700mhz at stock volts... don't undeerstimate the stock cooler... and don't overestimate your temps. Stock volts and 2700mhz is still almost as cool as 2500mhz.

Thanks mate will give it a try in a sec. Might as well see if I can hit 3GHz on that voltage as well. It's at 1.35 (CPU-Z/Speedfan and the BIOS all say the same thing) at the moment.

Dont worry about 3ghz yet... work towards it and don't rush it... get to know the limits off your hardware and your BIOS settings first. Aim for 2800mhz until you get better cooling. :)

Is anyone using one of these Opteron 144's on an Epox NF3 Ultra board (9NDA+ or 9NDA3J?)

I can't get mine to bench stable above 2500mhz atm (CAB2E 0540 FPMW) talking to Richdog think it might be the board holding me back.

Don't quote me on that though... you said you had the same problem using a divider right? 2.8v is also very low for your max memory voltage, especially using 2GB.

Vader if worst comes to the worst... wait till the 146's get in stock at one of several online stores seeing as there's a good chance they'll be CABYE 0540'2 again, and sell the CAB2E. :)

You dont want much...you just got 900mhz for free!!!

A couple of years ago they didnt have single CPU's that could manage that... I think I *** in my pants the first time I owned 1Ghz CPU

I was getting a 1ghz OC on 1700+/1800+ DLT3C's over three years ago using air-cooling... then a bit later on the Mobile 2500+ barton. It's nothing new. :)

Nah i'm not hardcore compared to a lot of people mate, not by any means... I just absorb a lot of info (through excessive/obsessive reading when I get interested in something) and go form there. It's just a case of knowing what to buy and when to buy... the OC then comes from there and trial and error through experience. :)

Until recently I stopped being in the hardware race as I realised it was just a waste of cash and social time... being really hardcore requires investing a LOT of money regularly into a rig, which iu'd rather spend on having a good time out of my roomk to be honest. However with the release of the opterons and the 7800 serties it just proved too tempting not to get back in to. :D

Vader there is the chance that the CPU just isn't a good clocker. What's even worse is that the other one I sold to the guy on another forum is probably a good clocker. Oh well... can't win em all I guess.... luck of the draw and all that.

I suggest buying a 146 as soon as they come in stock as they are still likely to be CABYE 0540's and then stick that one on Ebay to get your money back. :(

My mate nightic got 4 CPU's of that stepping and they all went straight in at 3ghz, mixed batch numbers... 3 ghz for this CPU stepping is common.

Best performing CPU he had was batch no. 5XX. :)
