Ok, so he's me driving into Leicester about 19:30 this evening. Now I set off from some lights and was doing about 45mph in a 40 limit (indicated speed) when I saw some flourescent stickers on a van. So I whaled on the brakes and had those gutting few moments where you are like pooh, did he get me :p. Now if he did I don't mind. I was speeding (marginally lol) so will gracefully accept a fine etc. should it happen. However, fingers crossed the car in front blocked me :D But anyway, while I moped at around 35mph thinking **** it, I went about 200 meters round a bend and there was ANOTHER camera van. Now i'm guessing people instinctively slow for the first and then speed up, so the 2nd van is waiting in tow to catch everyone speeding up :eek:

So i'm like WTF..........how can they justify having two vans within 200 meters on the same road where iirc no accidents have happened in ages. Its Friday night ffs get into town and sort out the drunken louts :D So it leads me to the opinion that they are desperate for figures this month or something :p lol.

Anybody else seen this sort of activity at all?
 
What do you mean did he get you? Those cctv yellow vans aren't also speeding cameras are they? I thought the point was to watch the back of the van at all times for evidence of police assault etc. from the drunken louts. I drove past a parked up yellow cctv police van yesterday at about 60mph in a 40mph so if they have speed cameras I'm probably screwed. They couldn't have give chase though because they were parked up and I had a big headstart so I thought it was sorted.

It was a normal speed camera van. Either that or the big ass lense looking out of an open windo was for show. Both vans were speeding vans :)

Ooh so thats a 'speed camera' van, I've never actually seen one before thank god.

I thought you meant the mobile cctv vans were also speed cameras:

lol, the pseed camera vans get nice relable new transits and normal cctv only get a crappy old LDV van! :P

a freind was stopped for speeding at 9 oclock on sunday morning (70odd in a 50 - dual carriage way) i think its rubbish that they pick 9 am sunday to look for speeders when the roads are so clear :rolleyes:

I've seen similar things by me in Wolverhampton, a fixed speed camera, and just round the corner a mobile camera, I think he got loads of people because nearly everyone speeds up again before they get through the village.

but then its also the safest time to "speed" as theres no1 else on the road

hence is point

why go looking for people speeding if they're not causing any1 any harrm. Which on a clear dry sunday morning, they're not.
 
i thought they used a camera van to catch you, then the 2nd point is where they stop you to fine you?
 
the only van they use that doesnt issue speeding tickets in the post is a blank one (no markings or nothing just plain white) that checks your tax / mot / insurance and also checks in the car is registered as stolen etc..

then they would stop you

but for speeding, you just get a nice little letter in the post :)

2 speed camera vans (one facing in each direction) at the bottom of saffron lane at about 7 o clock tonight

just when you thought you were alright, it was facing the other way, theres one on the other side of the road facing the RIGHT way

good job i was only doing an indicated 33 when i spotted it.

yeah its damn annoying though cause they swear blind its not to make money :mad: I wouldn't mind so much if they spent the cash generated on the roads cause to be honest, i'm sick of having to avoide pot holes and the likes :(

Might have something to do with the fact that you'ld be braking the law if you were speeding. :p

It doesn't make one jot of differance if your the only person within 50,000 miles on the road, speeding is against the law, its simple.

You think if you were bombing down the motorway at 300+ miles an hr in a rocket car, that the police should just let you get on with it and turn a blind eye as your the only one on the road, no of course they have to do you, the speed limit is 70, your breaking the law, its simple. :p

This kind of blanket typical response to the speeding conundrum really annoys me because its so condescending it doesn’t even deserve a response.

I live in leatherhead just off the M25 (J9) which leaves me in a very interesting position to see the effect cameras have on road safety. If you get on the M25 at J9 westbound within a few hundred meters you enter the heavily monitored zone. In fact, there is a camera at every single gang way junction way up till about Watford. The traffic is forced to move at 70, except in the fast line where you get the standard speed up slow down slinky effect of the speeding drivers. If you go eastbound at J9 there isn’t a single camera for miles and miles. There are regular points where the entire traffic moves at 80 and the fast lane is standard at 90mph. I find it ironic therefore; that the section of the road most often closed due to accidents is not the camera free eastbound section, but the westbound. Can you really say from this testimony that cameras create a safer environment?

The fact of the matter is; everybody speeds. So by you saying its fine for the police to sit in vans racking up the dosh you are criminalizing a massive proportion of the driving society.

The fact of the matter is; everybody speeds. So by you saying its fine for the police to sit in vans racking up the dosh you are criminalizing a massive proportion of the driving society.

No - not everybody speeds.
A typical answer usually from somebody recently caught by a camera.
You know those police sitting in their vans? The ones racking up the dosh?
Guess what - if nobody was to speed they wouldn't rack up ANY dosh.
 
If nobody were to speed they'd up the limits by 10mph anyway thus taking the majority of speeders right back to what they were probably doing when they were speeding. Silly argument, unfortunately the majority of motorists concentrate on the road rather than their speed metre. Damn them.

and i suppose you obey every speed limit everywhere you go and never once exceed it by more than about 5mph ?
