James, they're better than my first goes, what settings did you use?

If you have Lightroom etc, setting the white balance to Tungsten helps remove the orange light pollution other than that I'd probably just include more of the foreground in the shots, at least a whole tree and if possible get as far away from lights as possible, I drive about 10 miles away usually and thats still not enough!

This is miles from town but still facing back you can see the glow, although it does add to this shot I think.

Hi,

I used the following settings:

Exposure 25
Aperture f/4.0
Focal Length 27 mm
ISO Speed 800

Focal length is what it is because I forgot to set it to 18mm (didn't look through the view finder as i thought i wouldn't be able to see anyway, lol to just took test shots until i got what i wanted)

Thanks for the white balance tip, and yeah i drove to a place i thought would be the most light free might have to go further a field next time, lol.

J

EDIT

Quick play resulted in this :-).

Cool, I usually use f/2.8-4 and ISO 1600 to 3200, the more light you capture the better but looks like you have the focus nailed which can be a problem. Even just pointing the camera away from town can make a big difference.

Some of my sister's A2 artwork. Her project title as you may have guessed is 'Sweets'. I had some other shots but I couldn't get them to work as I had to use such a small aperture to get the whole frame in focus (f29) that the kit lens was too soft for an acceptable level IMO.

Snip sweeties

Instead of using f29 have you considered focus stacking? Then getting a program like Helicon to stack the multiple focuses for you?

some good work there, would have been awesome if she had a speedlite and a coloured gel to mask some of that white. but then she might not of been able to do that??

Evening all
Thought i would share a few of my own shots i took the other day. Just starting out and getting used to using a camera again so im hoping to learn a lot :D
