The Quietest 7200rpm Hard Drive

I recently bought a seagate 7200.10 on the recommendation that it was completely silent and it turned out to be the noisiest hard drive I have ever used - apart from SCSI drives in servers.

Could anyone recommend a truly silent hard drive? I hear the Samsung spinpoints are quiet.

You must have got one of the bad noisy seagates, as i have a few 7200.10 ones at work and home and they are the quiet ones

Yeah, apparently i got the noisy motor, but there's no way I'm running that risk again!

check out the samsung drives. They are notorious for making quiet drives.
Look for the ones with "Fluid Bearing motor"

i would have to go with samsung as well brought my first samsunh drive about a month ago and quitest ive ever had

definitely samsung. seagate are silent as well, but when they load data they sound like tractors.

do you know if the 500gb version of the seagates are silents as i know there is a problem with the 320gb (well some of them)
