Hi guys, I have had a Red Devil Ultimate (air cooled) 6900XT for a couple of months now. Monster card but it isn't even breaking a sweat at the standard 303W power. Temps don't get above 65-69 and core clocks are anything between 2450-2690 MHz. I appreciate I can tinker with power limits a bit but voltage is locked.

I haven't read this whole thread. Is there a TLDR of what tool is best to use for overclocking/undervolting/extracting more performance from this card? Is it MSI AB (I use this in all my Nvidia cards) or should I use the Radeon in-built software or get More Power tools?

Where I got confused was that I thought people were trying to tell me that the changes that I made with MPT on that drive would stick after I went back to my original drive. It didn't make sense to me, because that's not what they were saying. But it's what it sounded like and I got confused and needed clarification. I see now that it was just a troubleshooting step to rule things out, not fix my boot drive.

So I mentioned a couple of times that I have a blank Samsung Evo 870 1TB installed inside my computer. I was originally using the 870 Evo for a Steam library drive, but I'd moved my Steam Library over to my 970 Evo Plus 2 TB as Drive D, after I replaced the 970 with a 1TB 980 Pro as my Drive C boot drive.

I keep all of my essential apps installed on my smaller boot drive, and my 1TB of Steam games are installed on the larger 2 TB 970 Evo plus Drive D. So I wont have to re-download to re-install all of my Steam games. All my documents, pics and downloads are stored on the cloud and on an SSD in my safe, so I wont lose them.

So I have made my plan. I'm writing it here to make sure I keep this fresh in my head (and maybe get feedback).

1) I will do a fresh Windows 10 install on the empty 870 Evo 1TB drive as suggested.

2) I will install only the chipset drivers and Radeon software, GPU-Z and MPT, and see if MPT works on that clean install with my 6900XT.

3) if it does not work then I stop here. But this way I will not have messed up or wiped my otherwise working 980 Pro boot drive (other than MPT not working).

4) If we prove that a clean install of Windows is the MPT solution, then I will use Acronis True Image to create a bootable clone of my current Windows 10 install onto the 870 Evo.

5) I will leave the 870 Evo installed as a legacy boot drive, while I take my time setting up the 980 Pro again. (I also have a clone in my safe and in Rig #2.) I can use my870 EVO SSD to boot from and run other apps until I am done setting up the 980 Pro.

6) I will wipe the 980 Pro SSD and do a clean Windows 10 install on it with Radeon and chipset drivers, GPU-Z and MPT, and test again to make sure the MPT problem is not there.

7) If the new Windows install also works with MPT, then I can take my time to install essential apps for me like Steam, Xbox live, Electronic Arts and Origin, as well as Bitdefender, iCue, Armory Crate, Ghub, Cyberpower backup battery control panel, MS Office, Chrome, Google drive, Dropbox and OneDrive.

8) I will sign into all of the apps, and point Steam to my large Steam Game Library that is still on the 970 Evo Plus.

9) I will continue installing all the other apps, media streamers, and games that I use outside of Steam (from Microsoft Store and EA/origin or online).

10) As soon as I have everything on the 980 Pro working exactly the way that I want it, and MPT is still working to increase power delivery to my 6900 XT, I will change my boot order in BIOS to use my fresh 980 Pro as drive C to boot from.

11) I will keep the 870 Evo with my old windows set up as a spare and not touch it (at least until my 2TB 970 Evo Plus Drive D is near full and I need the space).

12) I will clone this new 980 Pro install onto my backup WD Blue SSD that I keep in the safe, as well as to the Samsung 980 M.2 SSD in Rig #2. All the drives are new, so it wont hurt the TBW too much.

Why not? Easier on the eyes than red.

None of your. business :p I do find it interesting though that the control panel is telling me the card doesn't meet minimum requirements for a few games.

You had a 3070 in that system, heevan! :p

It’s a known issue. I just disable everything in preferences bar the tray icon.

More Power Tool is what you need. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/forums/posts/34931701

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Radeon RX 6900 XT.

Finally got round to playing Cyberpunk 2077 and I`m quite enjoying it so far its sucking me into the game. Dont quite understand some of the mods and cyberware stuff just seems as though they have tried to pack in too many perks etc. First hour spent just mucking about with the settings and staring at puddles to see what are the best graphics settings. Decided not to use RT as dont like playing at 30fps and didnt like dynamic or static fidelity to boost RT just looks too blurred so play with it off and I`m getting decent smooth FPS now. One thing though my hot spot temp was 108c which I didnt quite like.

So I tinkered with my undervolt now and I think I have found a good sweet spot. If I keep it at 1175mv with power limit 10% and max core speed of 2400 the hot spot stays at 98c with core temp at 68c and my frame rate doesnt change.

Only at the beginning of the story but I stayed away from the main story over the weekend and just did a load of side stuff. Only bugs I've noticed so far are with the interface in the Inventory section windows not showing where they should be.

Yep the XTXH chips can run warm with 1.2 available to use if you let them use more power.

You could probably reduce the delta between your edge/junction if you changed paste and used some Kryonaut, but that might be too much hassle if you are happy as you are with an undervolt.

My GPU info in HWiNFO64, CPU-z and GPU-z has gone strange. GPU-z/CPU-z cannot display the GPU or VRAM and HWiNFO64 cannot display VRAM and fanspeed. Also DevilZone no longer works so cannot change RGB stuff. I think it could be a Win 11 issues as I am using the insider Dev preview but it all worked fine at first and then HWiNFO64 stopped working so did some testing with other stuff.

Def Win 11 issue - lots of low level hardware access to be fixed before release.

Just tried the 21.7.2 driver (although thought I was on latest) and my Timespy score has smashed 19k (up by 400 points on previous) and tried Timespy Extreme as not done this since 3rd July that goes up by 700 points.
Not long before I breach 20k I guess and thats without MPT tinkering.

That’s a good score, my 6900 XT seems to crash if I try and use Fast Timings 2 even at 2100Mhz.

for XTX cards just up the DPM3 to range from "1030 to 1060" and up the memory voltage to 900 - 1400 and test timespy
XTXH cards don't waste your time in Fast timings 2 just try to increase the memory to max using voltage up to 1500 as my card are limited to 2150 i can give a post by the method i mention with FT2
for stability tests to any RDNA2 cards Timespy and Fire strike ultra and Control with RTX do the job to make sure the card can handle anything for me

Yes, more big gains in 21.7.2, don't know where all this extra performance is coming from.

I should be able to improve my Timespy score further when i get a chance on the weekend.
