The Rangers Saga and Fallout Thread

Football has long since become more about business and money than about sport these days. Too many clubs get bought over as playthings for rich Arabs or bankers.
I suppose if Rangers were to be let back in as an existing club then they should certainly face sanctions. But if they go in to the bottom rung as a technically new club then I guess the slate should be wiped clean as they are starting again. it is all very sad that money has to rule everything these days.

Jas I agree completely with the no sanctions against the newco, however since they are applying not for membership to the SPL but to transfer Rangers share in the SPL, then the sanctions go with the share.

Various clubs have tried to argue in the courts that club and company are separate entities. The arguement that Rangers Ltd were the parent company of Rangers the club is also a non starter as that also implies Rangers the club are a company.

SPL rules state that players must be registered to the club, since the players are free to walkaway from their contracts and will have to be re-registered by the newco surely that point to the club not being a continuation but a new club.

I just wish all parties involved would get their fingers out and make a decision on whats happening so that clubs can start preparing for the new season.

Unlucky for the club that takes over the share then eh?? As it will transfer to Dundee who will take our place.

For that instance the old rangers share will be treated as dead as the club/company cannot fulfil the requirements for it from the previous season and a new one will be created for the new club ;) (otherwise the spl will just have 11 members which would be more of a joke)

The internet needs a sarcasm/joke sign sometimes :p

Wasn't being serious. :) However punishemts shouldnt go with the share thats daft.

You can't have it both ways its either a new club no sanctions or its the same club with a new parent company and has to take sanctions.

By the same token newco can't write off Rangers debts and expect to continue as normal in the SPL.

I'm in no way advocating that sanctions/punishments should be applied to the newco but at the same time they should respect the established route into Scottish football and apply to join the lowest league.

The oldco wrote of the debts not the newco. The newco had nothing to do with that.

We the fans would rather we went Div 3. However it appears the SPL/SFA dont want that to happen as the lack of money would help kill the game apparently.

I fear whatever way it goes it will kill the game.

Football is a sport all be it a sport that is big business, when leagues are for want of a better word "fixed" to ensure that money is kept in the game, does that not then make a mockery of competitive leagues?

I don't support one of the top teams but have always hoped that one day we might be able to challenge them........ this whole episode makes it clear that the leagues will do everything in their powers to preserve the old firm (it would be no different if it was Celtic in liquidation). Why bother going to watch games when you know that your position in Scottish football has been pre-determined by the governing bodies?

Am a bitter at Rangers? Do I hate them? No, they are doing what any club in the same position would do, fighting for the best chance of survival. I just feel that too much effort is being made trying to keep the status quo and no real progress is being made. The proposed league reforms amount to not much more than a renaming excercise and still need the SFL clubs approval. I'd much rather see larger leagues than a rebranded division 1.

Its more to do with the money than keeping Rangers or celtic in power. They have said Rangers to the 3rd will put up to 5 clubs in admin/liquidtion, personally if they have been that poorly run for the sake of sporting integrity it has to happen as I have said, We the Rangers fans would rather goto division 3 and start afresh than goto div 1 and continue to help prop up the other teams.

Onto bigger leagues I have no problem with that however again the smaller clubs want the chance of 4 visits from Rangers and celtic for the money that they take from that. Though I see St Mirrens owner says he'd rather have a larger league but with the Belgian setup.

aye mate what a load of horse **** " sporting integrity" is in scotland, thing is everybody knows this but they still deny it.

Well, there is sporting integrity, thats what the fans of all clubs want - but its now got to a situation where things are damned if you do, damned if you dont - fans will be lost as a result of this no matter the outcome, so they should treat Rangers the same as any other club, make them apply to the league and if they get in on their merits (which they would) then the slate is wiped clean - anything else will be seen as a total carve up and cop out, even if it means clubs going to the wall, so be it.

We asked our fans for feedback on this issue, and within 3 days we had over 2,000 responses, and even allowing for an element of infiltration, the results were conclusive. 95.4% of supporters were against "Newco" being parachuted into SFL Division 1, in return for restructuring Scottish Football; and 96.1% of supporters thought that "Newco" should be required to apply for membership of SFL Division 3. In anyone's language these results are compelling and will likely be replicated by fans of other Scottish Football Club's.

Dunfermline saying no to the proposals. Looks like they're also questioning Dundee taking their place and might go after the SPL or SFL if it happens.

Dunfermline is a tricky one. They were relegated before Rangers were liquidated. Therefore I feel that should stand. Mind you, the big question is whether the fact that they have just bounced into Div 1 should put them above Dundee who were next in line on merit is a whole other kettle of weasels.

Doncaster and Ogilvie must surely go.

Time also must be running out for this newco to get sorted for next season. We are what 4? 5? weeks away from kickoff of next season. This all needs sorted very quickly.

Wouldn't be surprised if no form of Rangers is in any league next season.

The problem is under current SPL rules it should be Dunfermline who stay up or an 11 team SPL if they transfer Rangers' share. Of course, with the SPL making things up as they go along they should probably introduce a "Rangers rule".

I thought Ogilvie should've gone once his name was linked with the EBT payments. Doncaster needs to go since he's lost all credibility amongst the fans and from the looks of things the SPL chairmen.

The SPL season starts on August 4th, 1st division on the 11th.

No the problem is there is no rule that covers this, the current rules only apply to teams that go into liquidation during the season.
