This is proof that the software rate for the PS3 just isn't good enough, not just in terms of exclusives (1 game) but also in it's game attachment rate (2 games in 2 countries top 10). People have been screaming out for AAA titles on both formats and despite people trying to force Heavenly Sword into that catagory, figures would say otherwise.
Even more interesting is the sales figures for Madden 08. It has sold most of its copies on the Playstation2, which is no real surprise as it has a massive fanbase. It's also sold very well on the Xbox360, but despite the number of PS3 owners in North America it would appear it's not shifting on the PS3. I was really expecting that to be a PS3 system seller and massive shifter on the PS3, so it's very surprising that it's not featured in the Top 10.
I must say, the sales figures for Skate are very encouraging and surprising, having it sell 2,000 more copies than Madden 08 on the Xbox360 must have sales beyond EA's wildest dreams.
NHL, as always, has sold well in Canada. Not so encouraging is the fact that more than twice the number of copies have shifted on the Xbox360 to the PS3, yet it still sold more copies than MP3 on the Wii (quite surprised it hasn't done a lot better).
As for people claiming Halo3 wasn't AAA, nor a system seller have, as I and many others expected, made themselves look incredibly stupid. A massive 3,000,000 plus sold in North America.
I am curious though, had Halo3 not been seperated into 3 different releases in Canada, what would the other games be in the list. Or likewise, had the 3 versions of Halo3 been seperated in North America there wouldn't have been 1 PS3 game in the Top10 (very worrying when it's such an anticipated game).
I am really looking forward to seeing figures of next month (this month) with the new price drop and seeing how many PS3 games feature in the Top10 (though we can discount Motorstorm and Resistance as bundle games). I'd expect large sales for Heavenly Sword and a massive increase in HW sales for Sony. However, it's clear that HS wasn't the premium priced console seller they were praying it would be and as a result, they have needed a (much needed) price drop.
Overall, a big well done to EA games and Bungie for an incredible number of sales for September.
