The Rumour Mill, who do you want/think your club will sign/sell this summer

I would say that luque wasnt really given a real chance , maybe he didnt show enough in training to be in the first team but i am a big fan of la liga and seeing him play for mallorca and deportivo he looked a real good player , the injury he got straight away didnt help much + working under souness .

Ameobi has had loads of chances at newcastle but he isnt up to the standard required , luque will never be given the same chance to show what he can really do .

One good striker kuyt etc , a decent centre half and a left back and i believe newcastle will be back where they should be top 6 , come on freddy get your cheque book out again .
In total agreement here. :)
(I'd also say we need a right back though)

News on BBC suggests that fee agreed for Diarra between Utd & Lyon. He broke off negotiations to go and speak to Madrid

Positive note though Eidur Gudjohnsen may consider a move to UTD

dirk kuyt is going to happen.. its been kicking about for a year and a half now...

just the price may be a chunky one... nothing fat fred cant handle im sure.

iirc he has scored 93goals in the Eredivisie in the last 3 seasons. not bad.

since 2002 he hasnt been out the top3 goalscorers for the league...

he is 25, another good 6year at top level...

he could be a legend with us (newcastle)

EDIT : my dodgy spelling

Also been linked with Liverpool and Spurs for the same amount of time, i wouldnt read too much into anything until theres solid news.

hasnt been anything "substantial" regarding liverpool or spurs though...

there is nothing really substantial re newcastle - sure he said he would like to play there but the only reason he rejected move talk before was cos he wanted to move after the world cup. he had to cement his place and wanted to be in form. now the bids will start coming in.... saying that i cannot see him at spurs since they got berbatov and need strengthening elsewhere first. i could see him doiing well at liverpool however.

Yes there has.....moreso than newcastle from what ive seen, they've been solidly linked with him since last season and nearly moved last season as well. He even said he was dissapointed it didnt happen.

Link from the Ronnie

And Roeder admits he will run the rule over the Katwijk-born striker throughout the tournament.
The United boss said today: "He is certainly one of several players we are looking at and I am looking forward to seeing him in Germany.
"He's a player I like and I have found it interesting what he has had to say over the last few days.

Why wait until the world cup?
Have we never sent scouts to watch him before?
He has scored almost 100 goals over the last 3 years , has this suddenly come to our attention?
Is it suddenly a huge suprise that we need a striker for next season?

I think Wenger may be an admirer of Owen, but I still think a move for him is unlikely, bearing in mind his outrageous wage demands. I certainly wouldn't expect anything to happen until after the World Cup, which should be a good opportunity to guage his fitness.

Besides, other areas of the team need looking at first, as usual :)

If we have to buy a Newcastle player, I'd want Given.

If Wenger is going to make anymore signings I reckon he'll have it all done before the World Cup.

I'd imagine he'd want all the players together for the start of pre season training and more importantly the Champions League Qualifying rounds.

Arsenal won't enter the CL qualifiers until the final round, which won't be until August. There will still be time for some wheeler-dealing after the World Cup.

And don't forget that you can still change your CL squad prior to the Group stage.

Don't get me wrong I'd rather things were sorted out beforehand in general, but some players want to focus on the WC first, especially those looking to showcase themselves for a better transfer offer. With players off at international camps etc it may not be so easy signing them in June.

If Owen has a 12m clause in his contract then I think we should be in for him. The man gets goals, its that simple. He has a good understanding with Gerrard and will provide the cutting edge that we have been missing. It would be a little funny having him and Fowler back though somehow. Owen sort of forced him out and if he was to come back it might happen again, although I think Fowler is a different kind of player now to what he was when he was with us before. He's more of a 'Bergkamp' style player, linking up play than he was although still has that poachers instinct. Could work for us though.

I don't know about his current wages at Newcastle, but Owen took a significant drop in wages to join RM. From £80kpw to about £50kpw if im not mistaken.

If rumours are to be believed, Owen is on at least £90k/week at Newcastle (some suggest he may even be on a 9-figure weekly salary). There was a big hoo-har because it meant Shearer's wage also had to be increased in line with his contract (nobody was allowed to be paid more than him).

I can't see us being interested in Owen at all, he has nothing that we don't already have and has been said there are other areas which need looking at still.
