really do not like the mat finish and cant believe how much thicker the phone looks than the normal sized Z5.
I might just get the z3c now simply because of the this mat finish.

Compact has always been thicker, they need the space to pack all the internals. The back now has a frosted glass effect. I will have to see how this is before completely disregarding the whole thing. Hopefully it's less slippery.

Why does it cost £100 more than Z3C at launch, it has less premium build and less features (no magnetic connector, wtf, Z5C will be such a pain to use in the car...)

The z3c was the same price. It was however heavily slashed in price just before release. Maybe it will happen again.

depends on what you want/need out a phone, I can't find anything with a similar sized screen with comparable specs. I've had various phones and now I am at a stage where i will happily compromise on some areas to have a decent, small phone...

Agreed, ive checked the competition and nothing comes close.
The closest thing would be the ip6.. or the Galaxy Alpha, which is what im using until this is out.

Built in wireless charging would have been nice though.

With a battery this good, wireless charging is low priority to me.

Its all about the size. Better one hand use.

Im seeing quite a few small differences between the Compact and Z5.

Metallic ring around the camera. Seamless corners.

Bigger notification light on the Compact.

Volume button placement is quite odd for both.

Not too bothered by the plastic, it still looks quite solid. I just wish there was better colour options.

Compact's too small for me. Had to sell it on and buy the Z3 and didn't regret it at all. Although the compact is a great phone in its own right and ideal for those who want a compact phone yet has powerful performance.

The size is just right for me. Downgrading from an S6 Edge :D

A little Q&A:

£429.99 is still the cheapest to buy this?

Havent seen many offers for it yet. Still £450 on Amazon.

Clove has a bundle offer giving you free wireless headphones. Sell the headphones for £30 and that brings it down to £400.

o2 usually have some good refresh offers.

Yeah, it's cheaper directly from Sony online so I might get it from there unless Amazon prices matches.

Why buy from Sony when Clove has it for £430 + free headphones? :p

Other than the screen resolution (and size, obviously) is this exactly the same as the normal size Z5 with regards to specs?

Ive only noticed a slight difference in the wifi, everything else is the same.

Battery life should be better.

Clove are reliable. Many users on here have used them.

Any news on those rumours of a Z5 compact premium?

I can't believe they still have a 720p screen in these :(

Such a let down, especially for a £450 phone!

Japan only I think. Not much news on it.

Z5 compact's screen is still crispy @ 720p and the overall phone is a nice upgrade over the previous version.

Same here. Really torn to be honest.

Spotted them yesterday.

  • Sides are flatter on both compared to z3/z3c.
  • Fingerprint scanner in perfect position.
  • Volume buttons placed quite low.
  • Back is very nice.
*Unsure if the back was glass on these dummy units.. was more of a smooth metallic finish.

No finger smudges in sight though

It's worth getting this and then an 820 device later on :D

Sell the z3 and the preorder headphones.

Or buy the compact first, make sure it does the job, then sell the Z3 + wireless headphones as a bundle = around £250 - £300.
