*** The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Thread ***

Been there and done that with the shorts pocket :)

So it's ok under water for up to (or down to) 1.5m, I presume anything more and the water pressure would force it's way in?

So the z3c had flaps over the ports but the z5c does not, how does that work with water then any idea?

Jay

From a quick Google the IP rating essentially says that the 6 means:

"6 Dust tight No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight)"

and the 8 means:

"8 Immersion beyond 1 m The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that it produces no harmful effects. Test duration: continuous immersion in water
Depth specified by manufacturer, generally up to 3 m"

So I'd read this as you are probably OK up to 3m depth (note I'm accepting no responsibility if this knackers your phone!! :p)

As far as the ports etc I believe the parts of the phone that water would have access to are covered in some sort of water resistant coating!

Not put my 64GB card in yet as I've got some transferring of files to do tonight but I've read it will take upto a 200GB micro SD card! (and with photo's on the 20mp setting hitting in excess of 6MB per photo, one might not be a bad idea!)

for those of you who have one now, have you tried a 64Gb or 128GB class 10 card ?

Got a 64Gb card coming, hopefully tomorrow.

Abit annoyed I didn't get my BT Headphones from Clove. Will have to wait a few weeks for them to be delivered according to the note inside. I would have ordered from Giff-gaff last week if I knew otherwise.

Yeah I was a bit annoyed that the headphones were on "back-order" - no mention of that little gem when making the order! (Not to mention that the box that the phone came in wasn't sealed in any way AND there is a small tear in the box innards indicating someone has had it out!?!?!)

Anyway not sure I'm keeping mine as I'm not sure I can live with the drop from a 5" screen to a 4.6" screen so at least I won't have to return the headphones too!

Does Clove have a good returns policy as I have never used them before?

This is my first order with them so I guess we'll see! I can't see anything in their returns policy that says there will be a problem!

I do like the phone, just not sure it's worth the extra over my M8!

Ok cool.

Had my phone on 100% battery since 5.30 this morning, listened to podcasts for about 1 and a half hours and now its on 88% battery life. Is that normal? would expect it to be at least 95%.

i thought the z5 compact was supposed to average 2 days ?

Great and I have to disable stamina mode for one of my apps to work :(

Mine from Clove was opened but I found a screen protector in there which I think they must have put in. Still not happy it wasnt delivered sealed.

I'm still torn as to whether to keep mine:

Pro's

  • Love the fingerprint sensor
  • 32GB of internal memory and an SD card slot (my M8 only has 16GB of internal space and I've found myself running out!)
  • Like the Sony "throw" facility to my Sony TV
  • FAR better battery life than my M8

Con's

  • Handset quite slippery so a rubberised case would be a necessity and this would add to the bulk!
  • Smaller screen with a lower resolution
  • Feels small in my hand (but I guess it would after handling a 5" screen!)
  • Camera not quite as spectacular as I expected
  • Got quite hot as I was using it last night - and not 4K video or anything so was quite surprised!

Decisions....decisions....

You should be able to activate Stamina mode, and make an exception for the app in question?

Why would you expect the phone to be connected and awake and only use 5% over 3 hours?

It all depends on a number of factors, the biggest being Cell coverage and how hard the radios have to work to maintain a connection.

In bad signal areas it wouldn't be unusual for Cell Standby to show it was taking more juice than the screen.
