*** The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Thread ***

how do i get this? I purchased a sim free handset from cpw.

Plug the phone into a PC and install pc companion when it pops up on the phone screen, or download it from Sony.

The update makes a massive difference to the phone.

Can't imagine the ota will be too long if you can wairwait.

Camera improvements?

Faster start up, faster shutter, better low light processing, faster processing and superior auto sharper at picking the scene I've noticed so far.

Still soft and fish eyed at the edges a bit at long focal lengths but they have said that they will sort that in an upcoming update apparently. The current camera app doesn't compensate for it in its processing of the image.

I did the update last night, not really bothered about the camera but the finger print sensor now seems to work a lot better

Yeah, others have told me they're dual speakers on the front. I can now see really small slits for them. :p

Can you take a photo of a page of text with the camera and see if the top left edge is blurred at 100% zoom?

I really want this phone but I'm put off by lots of reports of blurred edges on the camera photos. Seems most prominent on text or foliage/trees - anything where a loss of detail is noticeable.

If anyone else who has one can comment I'd be interested.

There's a long thread about it here but I'm not sure if this is every phone or a bad batch. If you look at the most recent photos in that thread at full size you'll see it straight away.

From the camera? I assume you mean Z5C? (I assume they're the same camera's anyway?)

I'll definitely do video, not sure about stills, will see if I have time.

It's lens barrel distortion, (fish eye) and is prevalent on most lenses to some extent. It kicks in on this lens at long focal lengths. The current camera app is not compensating for it which is understandable as it's only a place holder app until the new one gets released in a week or so. It's easy to test for, just focus on something a decent distance away and pan the camera round, you'll see at the edges it looks like when you set the fov too high in a game on the pc a touch..

Saying that, I'm getting some lovely stuff out of the camera and I find its better than the S6 I had overall now I know it's weaknesses.

Personally I think a lot of people pinning their hopes on this new camera aapp to be some sort of savoir, are going to end up disappointed.

I don't think the blurred edges will be resolved by the app but we'll see

Oh and Z5 Compact @ O2 for £360
