*** The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Thread ***

QI is a gimmick imo.

How is it a gimmick? I have a wireless charger by my chair/sofa in the living room, one in on my desk, one on my bedside table, one in the office and one in my car... My phone is now almost always fully charged and all I have to do to keep it like this is put it down when I'm not using it. No fuss, don't even have to think about it any more. Now battery life is all but irrelevant.

Why does it cost £100 more than Z3C at launch, it has less premium build and less features (no magnetic connector, wtf, Z5C will be such a pain to use in the car...)

really do not like the mat finish and cant believe how much thicker the phone looks than the normal sized Z5.
I might just get the z3c now simply because of the this mat finish.

Compact has always been thicker, they need the space to pack all the internals. The back now has a frosted glass effect. I will have to see how this is before completely disregarding the whole thing. Hopefully it's less slippery.

The z3c was the same price. It was however heavily slashed in price just before release. Maybe it will happen again.

Same here. I use it all the time at home, but also when riding off road, where vibrations can easily kill a usb port.

QI is a gimmick imo.

It really isn't, I had it on my Lumia 920 for two years and I would never have moved to the Z3c if it didn't have mag charging (had mag charging on my Bold 9700 and while it's not as good as Qi it's night and day better than having to plug a damn charging cable into the phone).

I can't wait for this. I'll wait for a couple of reviews to make sure there aren't any glaring issues but otherwise I'm confident I'll be upgrading to this before Christmas.

Top job - price is a little high but apart from an iPhone I can't really see much else with similar specs in a "smaller" screen size so I'll cough up.

The magnetic charging dock is a bit crap really. Breaks after a while, cables are expansive so you only end up with 1 etc. But then it beats taking it out of your case every time you want to charge it. Wireless charging is the way to go, but a redesigned USB cover wouldn't go a miss.

Either way this could be a very interesting phone, the Z3C is by far the best compact high end device available, they have a lot to do to make it significantly better.

Since when have magnetic charging cables been expensive? Hell even the official magnetic dock is £15!

The magnetic charging was one of the highlight features of the Z3/c, losing it was a big mistake and will now add faff for people upgrading to the new models.

I think the last phone I had to plug in to charge was a Nokia 6300 lol, removing the ability to charge without wires from a device in 2015 when you don't even need a cable to sync stuff any more due to the cloud is just retarded.

Lack of Qi is an instant fail for the waterproof Compact series... once again Sony pack a small phone with a great SOC and then leave out the features that really would have rounded off the package. AFter the Z1 Compact camera debaucle, I really don't trust Sony to produce a good camera and software either.

No current competition, My previous 2012 Lumia 920 isn't far behind lol, if the Z3c didn't have wireless charging I would still be using it as the camera was better*.

*Technically it was the software that was better.
