*** The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Thread ***

Same here. Really torn to be honest.

Spotted them yesterday.

  • Sides are flatter on both compared to z3/z3c.
  • Fingerprint scanner in perfect position.
  • Volume buttons placed quite low.
  • Back is very nice.
*Unsure if the back was glass on these dummy units.. was more of a smooth metallic finish.

No finger smudges in sight though

Nice thanks for that mate. Edging towards the standard 5 now having seen those

The Guardian says in their review that with daily use with hours of browsing, music, videos and hundreds of mails being pushed they got 3 days battery life without using stamina modes - It over-does the battery claim by Sony, whereas the Z5 is up to 2 days.

I don't know, on one hand I want to wait for the 820 handsets, but the prospect of 3 days battery and a smaller device, which is better specced than my Z3 is mighty appealing.

It's worth getting this and then an 820 device later on :D

Sell the z3 and the preorder headphones.

Or buy the compact first, make sure it does the job, then sell the Z3 + wireless headphones as a bundle = around £250 - £300.

I'll pop into cpw to check it out. They must have a demo unit in by now.

My local one didn't at the weekend! :(

I really want to see this phone in hand to see how the screen size compares to my HTC One M8 before I start looking for deals etc!

So first impressions...

The phone looks and feels nicer than the Z3 and Z3 Compact in black and in the flesh. The matte finish gives it a classy stealthy look and the back isn't slippery.

The size is fine and the screen seemed nice quality too, seemed as clear and crisp as the Z3.

The demo mode ruins the entire software though, loads of things seemed missing, I connected to my hotspot to cheekily upload camera samples to my ftp but the moment you go online 2 things happen:

1: The photos delete themselves from the gallery.
2: Demo mode starts or the phone reboots.

Demo mode also makes the whole phone stutter.

I notices the camera has HDR option in the white balance screen now and is usable at any resolution. On the Z3, HDR is only available at 8MP or below. ISO control is only available at 8MP as shown at IFA sadly.

The AF speed is insane.

I tried to NFC beam camera samples to my Z3 too, but demo mode kicked in within seconds of enabling NFC...

The rear camera lens fov is considerably wider than the Z3 side by side. Interested in seeing what they change in the new camera app in November.

That's the Compact in my hand. They had a dummy Z5 in, but no usable handset.

My impression is that if you've got a Z3 or Z3 Compact then unless the Z5/Compact is at a very good bargain offer, then it's not a substantial enough jump to upgrade to one really. Unless you absolutely must have finger print scanner and camera AF speed improvement.
