I have been using the word quite often for some reason... I like it as an insult....

Same, or, recently I went through a period of using it constantly. I'm fairly sure I must have been watching a film, or tv show where it was being used excessively and it just stuck in my mind for a while, but I can't think what it was.

For like two weeks, everything was a douchebag, watching football "stupid douchebag, pass the ******* ball", etc, etc.

Douche is a pretty good insult, as it's something that women insert into themselves when they need to remove a build up of fragrant fish cheese.

Megadouche is one of my favourites atm.... I do watch a lot of American TV so I think it must have came from there.

No. It's not half as annoying as the word 'gotten'

Oh yes, definitely.

'Gotten' is used so much in American culture. We have a whole descriptive lexicon of verbs in English yet they choose to continually use the same one.

Received, attained, achieved and so many more words get dropped just to use 'gotten'.
