Hi am me227 brother and am wonder if anyone here is in the TA, If soo can anyone give me there personally inside to the training plzs, Thanks

Get the DVD too, gives you a bit of an insite from TA soldiers.

As for training, the main bulk of it is covered over a two week event, if it's a combat role, you'll need to be able to do 50 sit ups, 50 pull ups, and a 1.5 miles in 10:30.

You'll get sent to Iraq!

This man speaks the truth,

Mate of mine joined the territorial army a few years back, did a tour in Iraq last year, Feb -> October iirc. Pretty hellish stuff, but ideal for him wanting to become an armed responce police officer... nothign quite like policing a war zone as your training for being a police officer :)

They do go on the front line, and do many things the regs do.

What many people think is that the reserve is a gentlemens club, but you will be called for duty in the 4 years they ask from you.

But unlike the regs, you can leave at anytime, even before the 4 years, unless you're called up.

:)

As already said, get the DVD.

You are liable to be deployed with the regulars, although they 'usually' take volunteers. However, depending on your specialisation you could be pulled to go, no arguments. Your civilian employment is legally protected whilst you are deployed. This is not some kind of club, once you are in, trained and qualified the Army expect a return, they pay you, so expect you to respond to their demands. The regulars are overstretched big style, so reservists with skills are the obvious pool of resources they turn to.

There are two types of units, depends on which is nearer your work/home, which is often the best one to join. All you need to know is on the TA web site, or contact your local TA centre.

National Units: If you have a skill or trade that the Army is in need of, you may be able to join a National Unit. In some areas, you may also be able to train for a specialist role that is new to you.
National Units provide expertise in areas such as logistics, IT and communications, medicine, engineering and telecommunications. There are 11 National Unit HQs located across the UK.

National Units require you to attend a minimum of 19 days training per year, including some weekends and an annual two-week camp.

Independent Units: By joining an Independent Unit you commit yourself to a minimum of 27 days training per year, including a weekly training evening, some weekends (typically once a month) and an annual two-week camp.

I am surprised to hear that as I was under the impression you had to resign from the reserve forces to join the rozzers ?

If its anything like the Fire Brigade they will have to honour your committment if you are already in the TA. You would have to ask permission to join if you are already in the fire service.

I know that Trumpton have different practices and reading online, it says that canditates must be prepared to resign from the reserve forces. It doesn't say they must.

I don't see that any disciplined force such as the Police or Fire Service would allow a person to be in the TA, but while most have generaly forgotten just how useful the TA were in WW2 period, the MOD haven't. There is a lot of legislation in place to protect the TA, I wouldn't be surprised if Police and Fire Brigade have an obligation to allow their empoyees some oportunity to join the TA.

the TA have a online chat service were you can take to a TA Career Advisor about anything you need. its closed on a Sat but open on a Sunday and weekdays.

I have been thinking about the TA for a while now but have no idea what areas of IT Spec they have.
