iirc since ww2 there has only 1 year that a British solider has not been killed in action.

That wouldn't surprise me. I remember before Iraq and Afghanistan sitting in a pub with my brother and some buddies and overhearing a conversation which was discussing the fact that we had been at peace in this country for 60 years.

My brother turned to me and said, "Well, they obviously haven't returned from that hell-hole we were in then"

It amazes me that a lot of people used to think WW2 was the last time anyone from Britain was shot at. (before Iraq etc..)

only in the very small "developed world" group of countries. everywhere else makes us look like prudes.
