The upper bound on your salary

Quite a random thread, but what is the upper limit on everyones salary here?

Based on your education, current job and career aspirations what do you think is the maximum if you put 100% into your career is?

Be interesting if people could give some sort of format to their responses?

So perhaps current role, sector and upper bound?


E.g.

Software Engineer, Healthcare, 50 - 70k

Please no e-willy waving if possible! lol

Not at all. I was wondering if it's possible to be exceptionally technical and still over a career earn as much as a "management type". In my area it seems that you could be amazingly awesome at any area of science but at some point would end up earning less than some idiot with an MBA.

I work in the tax department of an accountancy firm and could make several hundred thousand a year if I worked to become a partner.

I don't know what you expected, no-one knows what the upper thresholds are. If I got to the top of my company and received a golden handshake it would be a multi-million £ deal. Probably tens of millions.

It won't happen though.

Payroll - about £40k I have seen things at for managers but the wages are never proportional to responsibility or indeed many easier jobs.

Well feel free to close it, might my post was a valid one, I am interested in the variance between maximum salary and industry / role I don't understand what is strange about that. From a comp sci perspective (which I thought I would get on here) it seems that being the best in that area doesn't lead to necessarily "lots of dosh". If those in the industry disagree they can post otherwise.

I can see what your trying to do in the thread, and it would be genuinely interesting to see realistic upper bounds on peoples salaries. However that is virtually impossible to gauge because, as Gilly said, if someone manages to work their way to the top of a company (regardless of qualification) the sky is essentially the limit.
