Theatrical LotR versus Extended LotR?

Extended every time. Most of the stuff added is actually good stuff, not the rubbish scenery chatting stuff. It bulks out the story and parts of the story that didn't make sense at the cinema suddenly do with the extended versions. Still haven't got No.2 in the extended version yet though.

Is there a date for the extended version? I've been avoiding DVD-BR upgrades but if the extended version doesnt require a disk swap mid film then i could very well spring for them

i would have thought it is being held back for the release of the hobbit at cinemas, however the last i heard they still haven't started shooting this yet and now key actors such as ian mackellen have pulled out until further notice. :( could be a long wait for both. would love a good lotr game and i'm amazed we are yet to get one that does the story justice.

Peter Jackson specifically filmed extra footage for the extended DVD's so a lot of effort has gone into them. Even when they won oscars for the first film he returned to New Zealand to finish off extended edition filming for the first film.

Do you think there would be an option to play the theatrical if you buy the extended additions? Reason being I would probably want the extended versions but if I was watching them with a friend or the GF they might not be bothered with the extra footage.

extended adds more to the story and flows better.

I am waiting for the extended edition to come out.

Very much like the Kingdom of Heaven extended edition.

I too am waiting for the extended editions before I buy them on blu-ray. Think I will have replaced most of the movies I want on BluRay rather than DVD then.
