A few weeks ago a lost cat sign went on the lamposts on the street. Today I leave the back door open and it casually wanders inside my house! but the signs are gone so I don't know who to phone to give the cat back to. I've shut the back door to keep it inside whilst my mum asks a couple of neighbours if they know who owns the cat.

It keeps meowing and 'sad sounding meows'. It is walking around and jumping onto the window sill fine so I dont think it is hurt. But it think it wants something. I think it wants to go outside but I don't really want to let it as it might get lost again!

Look after it for a few days and stick some signs up in the same places as before saying "Cat found" with a photo, ransom/tel no.?

Ring any local vets and speak to them. They will either know of any missing cats and have a contact for the owners, or they will ask you to bring it to them and they will scan it to see if its chipped

Don't let it back out just yet, and put some water down for it. Does it look thin or ill? Is its fur shiny/smooth etc or does it look really bedraggled? Or does it look healthy and well kept?

Edit - useful link here

Lost cat posters probably came Down because they found it. Keep the cat for a couple of days and the posters will reappear. Then phone the owner asking for a ransom. And poo through their letterbox so they know you're serious

We found the people who had lost their cat and it isn't theirs. So I just let it back out again. Excitement over but here's a picture to make the thread worthwhile
