There's too much talk of the 50mm 1.8 in this place!

So thought I'd even it out a bit with this. ;)

Arrived this morning. I love the 50mm FL on crop and full frame/film so when I saw this one I just had to have it! Bought it second hand, 2010 code so no hint of back focussing that I can see. Perversely sharp and magnificent colours! Just don't remind me how much it cost. :o

Enough typing, I'm off out to have a play. :D

Would love to see some results too :)

I have the f1.4 version and absolutely love it (even on a crop body!). It's probably my most used lens because it's so sharp and generally always produces good results unless I'm being stupid lol

Nice lens indeed, don't even want to know how much it costs haha although being canon it would be cheaper than the equivilent Nikon tbh.

i know it might be off topic but has anyone try the 50mm with a raynox 250 attach to it to see what it does

I used to use a Raynox 250 with a nifty. It worked great. Just make sure you use high f/stops as the distance of focus is tiny in single figures.

Used it on a 50 1.4 on my 5D (used to use it on a 70-300 on my dad's d5000), the sensor's way too big so it vignettes horribly but optically it's fine..

Maybe we should have a "50mm Prime Photos only thread"
and have a ponder as to who shoots what with em.

Gotta say I'm loving my Nikon F1.4 but regret getting rid of the F1.8 also!!

Wouldn't really be able to tell at low res ? Unless we linked to very high res pics...but thats just pixel peeping ?

Yeah we could only really tell from the quality of the bokeh, and even then the Zeiss wouldn't come out on top (heard a lot of Zeiss 50 horror stories for IQ). Zeiss lenses are often more of a shooting experience purchase rather than IQ purchase.

The only lenses I think you could really identify from web res pics are the 50 1.8s because of the pentagonal bokeh, and the Canon 1.4 as it has quite harsh bokeh.
